That was pretty cool Rich. Just casually eating a giant meal while having a nice chat 🙂 I wish they would have showed the part where you had a 6 person sundae after!

Sorry. I was going based off the “info”. Wasn’t the food channel taping at Nathan’s? Juliet?

Thanks Kevin and Badlands. That sundae afterwards really hit the spot! This challenge (with no time limit) was a welcome break from the short contests of 8-10 minutes. I wish there were still a few longer contests on the circuit to reward more than just pure speed over everything else. When I’m at a buffet, I notice certain people around me taking at least a half hour more than they normally would to finish their meals and when I get up to leave they follow suit. Several curious people come up to me with positive comments so there must be some entertainment value to watching someone casually eating plate after plate of food.

I know what you mean, Rich. Nearly every time I go to a buffet – especially when I’m really trying to eat as much as possible – I’ll have someone come up to me and ask how I eat so much or they’ll be staring at me with a look of “why does that guy keep eating?” And I can’t eat nearly as much as you, so they obviously must be tenfold impressed/incredulous when they see you. So I think you’re right that people would have an interest in longer contests as they certainly seem curious when they see someone eating an extraordinary amount at buffets. I think in a way it is more relatable because it is eating at a pace people can do themselves. But I think such a contest would almost have to be a format where the audience could participate as well, otherwise they’d probably get too bored only watching and not eating – plus it would give a good sense of how much better the pros are doing by comparison. But I don’t think IFOCE is ever going to make such an event, but it would be pretty cool!

the ifoce does not “make” any events, the sponsors do

I started writing out a long, rambly response to the 2:41 commenter called “I said”, but then I realized I have nothing to say to someone that can’t post with their real name. So I deleted it. And no, this doesn’t count as a response. . .or does it?!

Kevin, look at it this way- with everything you said, that one comment was the only thing he jumped on.

It does bring up a curious question though. How many of the events in both of the orgs were around before becoming affiliated with them? I know that Nathan’s and WingBowl both were around before the Sheas got ahold of them, are all the others like that too, or do they actively go out and try creating events and getting sponsors for them?

The Sheboygan bratwurst, Laredo jalapenos and Garlicky Greens contest predate IFOCE affiliation there are probably others.
