Skinnyboy adds contest annoucement counter to blog

Andrew “Skinnyboy” Lane has added a counter to the sidebar of his blog counting the time elapsed since the most recent IFOCE contest with open admission was announced. He believes this last occurred when the grits contest in Bossier City, LA appeared on the IFOCE schedule on September 11. The counter is currently at 110 days.

Are you kidding me? It’s been 110 days since they announced a new contest?! I might have to take back my previous assessment that CE’s popularity has taken a downturn.

That was the most recently announced contest with open admission. The ramen contest and the MLE Chowdown were announced later.

mega munch i would agree with your previous assessment………ce is still strong…….there r tons of eating contests out there but potential sponsors tire of the ifoce very quickly……..other than deep pocket companies (nathans, krystals, casinos) how many sponsors ever had repeat things??????? none?????????

A 110 day sounds about right. I remember because I went to the grits eating contest and I was very happy wen ifoce.com announced it because I live in that city that the grits eating contest took place! And something I thought was strange that happend at the grits eating contest was that Sonya Thomas stoped eating after 8 mins and after the contest she helled her head under the table for a few mins like she was throwing up.

Its Don Moses Lerman and Ed Cookie Jarvis that is needed to bring interest back to the once highly revered IFOCE. Otherwise its a sure abortion going down the fallopian tubes.

Mega Munch, What I said about Sonya at the grits contest was true. There was only about 150 people there and most of them didn’t seem to know much about competitive eating and only 1 person I talked to knows about this web site,so most people there prob didn’t think it was weird like I did. Also I happent to be leaving at the same time as Joey Chestnut and he stop and talk me but, I was so shocked that I was talking to Joey Chestnut I forgot to ask him if Sonya puked.

Did anybody do anything exiting for New Years? Better get a second hobby to keep you occupied for 2008. OJR may need to devote this site exclusively to non–IFOCE contests because there wont be anything to talk about otherwise.

  21. Rhonda Evans said

The way things are going, maybe such a poll wouldn’t be inappropriate. It seems to me that since the Fed demands eater loyalty, and makes virtually no exceptions for eaters to eat at extra-IFOCE contests, they need to reciprocate just a bit and allow eaters to participate outside the currently dormant organization. (This probably doesn’t apply to Joey and Pat B., however, since they would have too much to lose.)

Perhaps an announcement would be appropriate to explain both the reason for the current state of things / lack of contests in the IFOCE, as well as future initiatives. I think your devoted eaters have a right to know IFOCE. I think the eaters’ fans would also like to know what’s cookin’.

    I know I would.

Anyway, you’d better be careful, as it seems to me that timing is right for an new (professional) organization to emerge that REALLY takes CE as seriously as its participants and really cares about its members. MLE has the talent, but the organization is run by those who manage it foolishly. It’s time for a change.

They figure that as long as they provide free food and brainwash people into thinking that no matter how bad we treat you, there is no other eating organization that will suit your needs. It’s almost like an abused wife that feels she has nowhere else to turn but to stay with that abusive husband . For all you media hounds once you realize that this shit , SPIKE, HDTV. and all these tv specials wont do a damn thing for your hollywood career or put $$$ in your pocket , you will finally wisen up. There is no stairway to the stars for the eaters as far as the tv shows. Notice that after they are aired, it’s all forgotten and noone knows or cares who the hell you are? There are two or possibly three individuals that cash in on these little projects and we all know who their identities

Thanks: 2008 will test eater loyalty more than any year to date. Anyone who remains with the Fed by year’s end is truly committed — perhaps in more ways than one.

…………………well said but will anyone listen……………………..

  26. Rhonda Evans said

To be honest, I expect few (IFOCE) eater attitudes to change, and I think it’s due to what I call the prestige factor, based on two premises:

    1. Being associated with those two or three world class eaters that a minute percentage of the population DOES ever so remotely associate with. (“He’s on the Wall of Fame!)

    2. Having (or living with the dream of having) one’s face planted on national TV every so often. Let’s face it, such opportunities are few and far between with the AICE. Case in point: outside of Japan, Eatfeats, and the AICE site / participants, has anyone seen, heard about, or know about the US versus Japan world eating championship matches that just occurred?

    There you have it.

    Anonymous,
It is true that Sonya was hanging her head and stopped eating around the 8 minute mark. I was eating right next to her so I saw it up close. In fact I asked her if she was going to keep eating or if she was OK. Despite all that I can tell you for a fact that she held it all down like a champ.
I am glad to hear you made it to the contest. I enjoyed it tremendously and I hope you did as well. If I could have my way we will do it all over again this year. This time I will have to bring more than 1 box of butter. (Thanks Patrick for buying this for me ahead of time!)

I was standing on the other side of Sony, and Hall is correct. Sonya never let anything go, she is a competitor to the bone. I really enjoy eating next to her. She always gives her best and enjoys beating people (I do to). My first victory over her will always be one of my favorite competitive eating memories.
