I can openly admit that myself and another former IFOCE member bought the book at Barnes & Noble read it then returned it a week later for a full refund

Like past Shea /Nerz projects , the book fell flat on it’s face . Can you name one freelance writer who has made $$$ on anything that gets published ?

I heard that Seiken was one of the cheapskates who returned the book after he found out his chapter on the watermelon contest was scratched by order of George Shea

George Shea had nothing to do with this book. It was all Ryan Nerz’s project.

I was disappointed that chapter was scratched, I wanted to read how whined about the results and begged the winners of that contest for money.

If memory serves correct when Seiken finished 3rd a certain bologna chump was seething with jealousy never congratulated him . I guess that was due in part to George Shea offering to covering Seiken hotel and gas expenses and a few $$ on the side . It took forever for Seiken to get the money but he eventually got it in the mail

There needs to be a oral history of MLE like the Beatles Anthology. I still own my copy of this book.

A 3rd place finish with a measly total is not deserving of a congratulations, 1st or 2nd place is a no brainer.

  12. anonymous said

    April 5, 2016 @ 2:16 pm

oral history? You wont get anything of the sort from the Sheas . You need to contact Nerz, Castellano, Antolini , Nancy Goldstein, and Kate Westphall to spill the beans on what went on behind closed doors when it came to gossiping about the eaters . Those 5 would turn an MLE anthology into a best seller

Funny how some people who cheated their way into the Nathans finals, with annoying emails to the sheas or their marketing directors inquiring about the easy qualifiers usually lack self confidence in their ability to compete against real competition

Please don’t shovel the shit by using the term “real competition” for Seiken. Nothing real about his inabilities.

Most of these comments are rather idiotic. And no, there will be no bestseller because only a few people, perhaps one mainly, are interested in so called “gossip”. If you want to be in MLE, adjust. Don’t be a pain in the butt because there, as well as in life, it doesn’t get you what you want. The past is in the past.

You fail to realize what Brian Smelkin had brought to Major League eating media wise . His 2008 CD Stick to Blogging made such an impact on Dave Baer (silent partner ) with Sheacommunications, that he demanded George Shea not only promote the entire CD with MLE but create a script for a possible movie release based on the soundtrack of the CD for 2009. I am not making any of this up. A check of generosity was also offered to Smelkin which he initially refused because he felt he did not deserve it but eventually accepted with gratitude. A meeting was held with the Shea brothers Smelkin and an independent film producer for an outdoor lunch on a sunday afternoon. While Rich was more interested in checking out the hot chicks walking by, George came up with an idea for a love interest for Smelkin in the upcoming movie by putting ads in craigslist . That idea seemed to tickle everyone fancy but when Shea suggested Smelkin bring family members into the movie , Smelkin balked claiming majority of them are deceased. George response was ” You guys handle this” got up from his chair and walked away into the sunset

Keep in mind that Smelkin from what i hear insisted that Badlands Booker be included in the production of the movie because he produced Smelkin CD. Smelkin always looked out for the people that helped him climb the latter to success although nothing ever came of that CD .

Nerz interviewed Seiken at now deceased Adelman deli in Brooklyn prior to the release of the book. Seiken ordered a corn beef sandwich with french fries and then asked if it was ok if he ordered another sandwich . Nerz made sure he got a receipt from the waiter because the tab was compliments of MLE and not an out of pocket expense on Nerz behalf. Nerz promised Seiken his chapter would be included in the book but it was not. When the book was released , Seiken either email Nerz or mentioned something in his website that the book stunk and everyone would be better off buying Jason Fangone book. Nerz responded back to Seiken voicing his displeasure about Seiken dissing the book. Nerz thought that posting the deleted chapter in his blog would make Seiken happy but it was just the opposite. Thats like googling page 100 on a search engine as opposed to being on page 1. Hardly anyone visited Nerz blog . Seiken always got screwed or was treated like a second rate citizen and this is not Seiken

  22. anonymous said

    April 6, 2016 @ 11:52 am

An insensitive comment was made about a retired eater in the book which enraged that eater to the point where Nerz was directly contacted via telephone and demanded that Nerz somehow remove the comment from an already published paperback or else.

“Seiken always got screwed or was treated like a second rate citizen and this is not Seiken.” We are not fools and have heard the story about Stick to Blogging and a movie way more than once. Seiken was given a lot of publicity and some people did buy from him and supported him until he began really being incredibly rude and insensitive, something he continues. That is too bad because he will never be happy. Negative gossip mongering and making things up is not entertaining. Many people were hurt or had problems with their jobs or families because of his blog. That’s the bald truth. He has forgotten the people who helped him and supported him.

Stink to blogging was a poor and cheap attempt made out of jealousy because Booker’s CD was getting some attention. Any why was it getting attention?? – because is was actually pretty good unlike that crappy selection of karaoke tunes thrown together by that wannabe tin eared crooner.

  30. anonymous said

You seem to dwell on the negative instead of accentuating the positive . The two faced loser strikes again. Arent you the same ass that questioned Booker choice of cologne and mentioned time after time “I hope he doesnt sing that rap shit before the contest . Its getting redundant “

  31. anonymous said

    April 7, 2016 @ 10:59 am

The big questions are . Can you do better ? NO Can you write catchy lyrics for one tune let alone 11? NO . Did your cheap ass buy the CD? NO Did you even bother listening to the CD ? Doubt it . If your comment was based upon constructive critique , one might appreciate but instead the comment is based upon hate for someone and nothing more . It costs money to hire a band and rent studio time unless you are an established performer in the recording industry with money to burn. FYI genius, half the songs on the CD were original and not copyrighted Karokee tunes

When smellkin was writing those horrible original songs, he was calling several eaters and secretly recording the conversations so he use it in the song.

  38. anonymous said

    April 8, 2016 @ 11:09 am

That is 100% false. Ed Jarvis left a voice mail saying “dont ever call me again ” which was a fantastic idea for a title song on the cd. Retrieve a voice mail and actually recording phone conversation are two different things you lackey

    Pat Bertoletti$10

    Mike Castellano $20
    Erik the Red $10
    Brian Subich $10
    Kevin Lipsitz $10
There might have been more but it’s been so long i might have forgotten some names. Seiken gave away more than he sold and the person or persons he gave them to , never offered a dime and probably never listened to it . Bunch of cheap tight wad bastards. Seiken recently gave FBTS a copy of the CD and not once did they even mention anything about it or the tracks from the CD on their podcast
