2 pound burger contest at Denny’s Saturday

Megamunch reports that Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub will hold a 2 pound burger eating contest after the new world’s largest burger is unveiled on Saturday. The burger is free to competitors. (This is probably the only way to receive a 2lb burger without paying for it as people who finish it in an hour only get a 50% discount.)

The blog entry lists the 2 lb record at 36 minutes, but I believe that is Lori Weiss’ record for the 3 lb. burger. Megamunch’s picture of the 2 lb finishers plaque reports that Andy Pentz ate the 2lb burger in 23 minutes on New Year Eve 2005.

I made a phonecall about the 2lbs Burger back in the fall and the waitress was under the impression that it was in the 15 minute range. I tried to get her to look at the plack and verify for me, but apparently I am only charming in person.

I’m away this weekend, otherwise I might have just made the 5 hour trip to smell the sweet meat of competition burgers…..drat

    Good Luck Eaters!

Hmmm…good research as always OJ. Denny specifically said we’d do the two-pounder and the record is 36 minutes. Maybe he was mistaken and meant the three-pounder. Crap. That thing kicked my butt last time. I’ll suggest to him that we do the two-pounder, if for no other reason than becuase it would be pretty boring watching seven or eight guys struggle to eat a burger for an hour.

if the record’s 23 mins for the 2lb… then we’ll break that record.
