Don Sturdy reports that Matt Stonie, Tom Gilbert, Stephanie Torres and Johnnie Excel will attempt to finish the 54 inch pizza at Big Mama's & Papa's in Hollywood on March 12. The prize money has increased to $2,000 since the team size has been decreased to four.

The doubled money would not have been offered to just any 4 eaters. The prize is based on this team being highly qualified, extremely marketable, non professional (IFOCE)eaters that actually have a chance at finishing.

If each person ate 1/4 of the 54″ square sheet pizza, that would be like each one eating slightly more than a 29″ round pizza each.

This is going to be tough, but if any team can accomplish this feat, this it is these four.

This is an outrage! All female eaters are Seiken’s territory. I hope this story was approved by him first.

Seiken also owns exclusive rights to Sonya Thomas, Larell Marie, Juliet Lee’ Jessica Abdul-Hussein, Stephanie Wu’ Bob Shoudt, Pat Bertoletti, and US Male for starters.

From the original team that did finish the pizza, I must say that this challenge will be harder than hell. I ate 42 squares, which roughly corresponds to one-quarter.

If they divide the workload evenly, each team member will need to eat 38 squares (given the claim of a 152 square cut).

The website claims that the pizza uses about 29 lbs of dough. If true, each team member needs to consume about 7.25 lbs of dough alone. Never mind the cheese, oils, tomato sauce, and the mandatory toppings.

No, it is a 54″ x 54″ square pizza = 2916 square inches total, or 729 square inches each for 4 people

A 30″ diameter round pizza (which I meant to say above instead of 29″) is 706.5 square inches total (using A = pi x r squared).

So each person of the 4-person team has to eat a little more than the equivalent of a 30″ diameter round pizza. That’s a lot. A 13″ pizza, OTOH, is a little smaller than a Domino’s large pizza.

    $2k each?!?!

No, $2000 total, or $500 each.

the pizza is said by the owners to be 50lbs…. 50lbs/4 people = 12.5 each

    12.5lb is ALOT!!! =[

With all due respect to these 4 fine eaters, the original team who finished this pizza consisted of a complete stud, 5 really strong eaters and 1 better then average eater and it wasn’t an easy task. As a matter a fact we failed the first time when it was 6 members by like 1/8 of the pizza (roughly 25 squares left)…

all area math aside, it doesn’t matter how many square inches one needs to eat because this pizza is so large some slices are 2 or 3 times thicker then other slices (a pizza that large it’s hard for them to roll the dough evenly)…

BOTTOM LINE IS THIS, THE PIZZA WEIGHS ROUGHLY 50LBS (GIVE OR TAKE 2 OR 3LBS… AND IF THEY MAKE IT THE SAME WAY THEY DID WHEN WE ATE IT), WHICH MEANS EACH MEMBER WOULD NEED TO EAT ROUGHLY 12.5LBS MINIMUM JUST TO CARRY THIER OWN WEIGHT… As Randy said above, this seems more like a Bickel type stunt.

It’s easy to underestimate this pizza, because when you think of pizza you think of something like Dominos, Papa Johns or what you get outside of a Costco, this is not like that at all, this is a Sicilian style pizza, VERY THINK and VERY DOUGHY (basically stack 2 dominos pizzas on top of each other and you have the thickness of a Sicilian style)…

I’m not one to be negative here, I’d love to see these 4 take this monster down, but I think if any team of 4 were to take this down it would need to be 4 of the of the top 7 or 8 in the IFOCE (add Koby in there as well)… Shit, come to think of it, maybe they shoulda asked Koby if he wanted to do it.

Good luck guys, it should be a lot of fun, but it sure won’t be easy.

PS – Naader, you know I love ya bud, you did an excellent job and you carried more then your weight but you didn’t take ¼ of that pizza by yourself. In all honesty I think the big guy (and you know who I mean when I say Big guy) was the only one that prolly came close to the ¼ mark.

Excitement and attention to independents is great, absolutely show Fail that he is just a naysayer. Is Tom Gilbert no longer with AICE or do they not have contracts similar to MLE or does it matter anyway? Probably not, just interested. It is great to have challenges which generate fans beyond the restaurant itself.

I think it will be very close. I don’t know the time limit but i think they either finish it in 45 minutes or fail to finish it in one hour, depending on how they are doing. So if it is a 45 minute challenge i think the time will be close. In regards to the time, if they feel they have more time to finish than they need, then they might be able to take their time a little bit allowing less furious air entering their stomachs. I am assuming they got 45 minutes maybe?

This has to be one of the most incredible amatuer get together’s out there.

    Rhonda,

If Koby was the 5th member they wouldn’t “romp” but stand a lot better chance that’s for sure… Again, maybe I’m not conveying onto you the magnitude of this pizza and I kinda wish Naader would add more input as to how this pizza is the damn Devil, realistically I truly think these four are in way over there head, but I am still cheering for them!

Here is a pic… I wish I woulda took a close up of the thickness of a piece, the dough on most of the slices were as thick as dish washing sponges, 2-4 times as thick as your normal style pizza…. as you can see the pizza is not only thick it’s so large (that’s what she said) you can’t even get a normal pic into a full frame shot.

Yes, 1 of the 7 Winning has it right. This pizza is the Devil itself. Each “square” is basically a thick chunk of sidewalk. Easily twice or 3X the thickness of any ordinary pizza. The cheese cools and hardens to give you the consistency of rubber. This is not the kind of pizza you pick up, bite, and swallow.

As the challenge wore on, we were throwing pizza squares across the challenge serving board and they thudded and bounced like hard bricks.

My closest comparison would have to be the 28″ challenge pizza at Ballpark Pizza in Rancho Santa Margarita, but even that one is nowhere near as thick or hard.

If these four can pull it off, they’re gods. Straight up.

We needed one machine, five solid eaters, and one backup man to get it down. There’s a reason that so many of the involved are not revealing themselves.

Honestly, it was a feat just to say we finished. Easily one of my favorite memories from all my eating experiences. This is really what connected me to a network of eating talent. I gotta give my thanks to 1 of the 7 Winning for giving me the great opportunity.

“Doomed” is an exaggeration. It will be a hell of an Eatfeat either way. I’m rooting for a win. It’s gonna take determination and a bit of a self-destructive bent for these four. Gonna need to eat and push well beyond any natural desire or compunction.

  30. NReda said

It’s too bad that I can’t name names, but the fact that a team of 7 barely finished this thing still boggles the mind.

It’s nearly cruel to expect 4 people to do it. Obviously, the assembled four (Excel, Torres, Gilbert, Stonie) are among the best the independent circuit has to offer. Outside of IFOCE names, they’re the best people for the job.

Could you IMAGINE a 25-lb pizza challenge for two people? Times two? That’s basically what this boils down to… and that’s the reason for my concerns. Every person MUST perform at 100%.

I’m coming down to watch, so I expect to see a win!

I don’t think they will need two hours, but it is good to have some time so they don’t have to rush or panic. If one can eat constantly for 20 or 30 minutes that should leave some bits left for the remaining 90 minutes of slow munchoff. I know people say steph took two hours with the 11 lb pizza, but i am sure the bulk of it was gone in the first 30 minutes. I am not sure how it is all going to go down, but i would never underestimate this group. It is a team effort and somebody migth be a weak link and we probably have no idea in advance who that is, but that is what teamwork is about, if someone does struggle the rest of the team has to step up their game. It wouldn’t surprise me to see certain eaters eating certain parts of the pizza more than others, some guys got the jaw strength to get through the crust while others might have an easier time with the cheesy interior.

Great job by Matt to get this team assembled and negotiate with the restaurant. We have a big mama’s and pappa’s here in vegas, not sure if they have the challenge here (7 person).

Jessica you must stop that negative attitude immediatly. You can win and you can compete with matt and the rest of them. You need to build confidence in yourself because eating is in your blood and you were born to compete in the sport. It sickens me when you get down on yourself. Pick yourself up and say yes yes i can do it . Read Sammy davis jr book titled Yes i can. Look at rocky balboa against clubber lange and ivan drago. Didn’t he come out victorious ? You are a gifted individual. Take a look in the mirror and tell me what you see?
