5th anniversary of Japanese schoolboy death

According to this article in metropolis Japan, today (April 24) is the 5th anniversary of the death of a 14-year-old Japanese boy who choked on a piece of bread after challenging two classmates to an eating contest. The death resulted in the cancellation of Food Battle Club and a three year hiatus for all televised eating contests. It is interesting that the press conference announcing the formation of Gyaruru is the same day as that tragic event.

OJ the subject of your heading is rather misleading, because the whole article centers on Kobayashi. Since he is coming over here this early — next week — to begin training I believe he will come within a dog or two of accomplishing his goal of 60 dogs. No one will touch him. He will own the last 2 minutes.

For Rhonda who is definitely not Rona: http://metropolis.co.jp/tokyo/431/feature.asp
This is the link to the same article which is feature #431 and not recent as you can see from the photos of Arai-san and others. The most recent feature article from Metropolis Magazine is from Issue #681 March 13th, 2007. That being said, and with all due respect to those who have come so close, I still put my yen on Kobayashi. But Eat All You Can…….on any given day one never knows………..

Thank you Rona! You are one of my very favorites on this site. I put MY yen on Koby too, along with my every peso I can find. He always does whatever it takes to win. If he needs to eat 60+ dogs, he’ll do it.
