Scooped again! I just opened my e-mail this morning and found and read the article on Kobayashi and posted the link on his fan page. Then I came for my morning fix at eatfeats. Everyone (well not everyone but “you all” know) knows that I am a huge fan of Kobayashi. One of the things I admire about Kobayashi, something which was always lost in translation, is that in his interviews he would say what an honor it was to come to the US and compete. In his writings he thanks the fans for their support but also writes about things like his awe at seeing the sea of fans at Coney Island from his perch and being amazed. He said that they were there for everyone, not just Joey and Kobayashi. I would never pretend to be able to read most of what he writes. My reading level is perhaps 3rd grade (in Japanese, wisecrackers). Okay, maybe it’s 5th or even junior high. I am but a Japanese speaker. For any of you who are fans, putting comments on his fan page in English would be, in my not so humble opinion, nice, not only for him in his desire to learn English but for his other fans as well. Just an idea. And Joey is linked. Win, win. Better quit now. My post may become longer than…….well, you know. I guess I’ll just go to my breakfast room.

P.S. Yes, it would have been nicer if the links were not to Wikipedia and were without the opening sentence characterizing competitive eating in the past. It’s the media. It is what it is.

I agree. If OJ is doing that good for him/her! (I’m not being sarcastic either.)

Rona is perhaps the only US-born fan who adores Koby more than me. I guess I’m just a sucker for humble superstars of few words who speedeat only food.

    (Rona, I said I wouldn’t do this anymore, but I can’t resist.)

“Kobayashi has lost his hot-dog title, but don’t worry, he is still reigning champ of the hamburger-based Krystal Square Off. Eat that, Chestnut.”

What I’m about to say is all in good fun and “fanship,” as I have much respect for Joey as one “helluvan” eater. I believe that if they make Nathan’s an actual eating (nondunking) versus a drinking contest, Koby will take that too.

Except for the Spike TV appearance a couple of years ago when Koby had the jawthritis problem and didn’t even try, he has never, ever lost a nondunking CE event, and the man is better now that ever.

The fact that he is just a little guy only amplifies his standing as the greatest competitive eater who ever lived.

Sonya certainly put things in perspective, regarding the great body of work Koby has laid down in CE, when she noted on CSN’s Washington Post Live a few months ago that Takeru Kobayshi is the only top-ranked IFOCE competitive eater that she has not defeated at one time or another, and is the one person she would most like to defeat.

That’s respect, and I’m sure it’s mutual among those two.
