ah the memories. i was the chubby balding dude (table ender) on the lower left. Joey had nothing to worry about this year. One amatuer (Peng) put up 29 which was kind of my own goal, i fell a bit short with a mere 19. however i never hit my wall, but was slowed by my poor competitive eating habits. But i am getting stronger and i hope to get a spot at the table next year. For a few of us eaters martoranos is in our own back yard. I actually took my wife there for our anniversary this year. the were playing classic italian movies, we watched “my cousin vinny” with no sound.
Juliet was very talkative with us amatuer contests i thought, and quite the dedicated mother. As was Rich the Locust Lefevre. Ron Koch and Kevin Ross surprised me as well downing 33 meatballs in 10 minutes. These are the kinds of good eaters that i were not quite as familiar with. On espn and such i would often see Lee or Lefevre and often times Joey and Eric. But these 2 eaters can eat with the best of them and probably beat the best of them.
cheers to next year. I should be much improved myself.
