Am confused ? So isn’t the whole point of eating contests is to see who are the best eaters. Now people who can’t hang with the big boys have to have their own Amateur league . What should you think coming from the land of DEMS …………. Thank god for GOP and real men …
What a bunch of sissy .

I find the term “league of amateur competitive eaters” oxymoronic. Surely as the league goes forward these eaters will get better and better and the cream will rise to the top and find themselves eating just as savy as non-amateur eaters. (All this drivel from a complete amatuer eater myself.) However i am reminded of what a very highly touted eater said to me when i introduced myself as a regular guy with a healthy appetite, he replied, “We are all regular guys with healthy appetites”. I think however that there are physiological differences between some very good professional eaters and most regular guys/girls. When porn went amatuer it became cooler, when eating goes amatuer… we will have to wait and see on that one. Well Man vs. Food is a hit so why not!

Like the minor leagues in baseball , the best eater in that league might catch the eye of MLE scouts but thats where it ends. There is also no guarantee that the superstar of the minor league eating league would have success in the majors

The idea of a minor league system is an accurate one. It’s also meant to be fun and lighthearted. @Dog Sorry to hear you think my idea is for sissies. The side effect is finding the best eaters, but I’m trying to make competitive eating accessible to audiences who wouldn’t normally participate. @Cutter You get the point exactly! Also, the name can be shortened to “LACE” which is funny. @anonymous On top of that, minor league games are more fun and are generally cheaper.

Amatuer eating is kind of catchy. I mean with facebook, youtube, and the current accessibility of amatuers through this site and others I can watch amatuer eaters attempt and conquer eating challenges all over the world. We are not all Joey Chestnuts. Actually sometimes during MLE/aice events an amatuer does crush much of the field, it happens. Even these amatuers might be the best eaters in their locality. Some amatuers have really taken to social networking to get their name out there. Good luck, I will keep my eye out for an expansion team in my vacinity.

How is having an amateur eating league any different from a town having a co-ed softball league or a local bowling league?
