The MLE facebook announces the return of Atlantic City King Cake (March 8), the Palm Beach Sweet Corn (April 16) and Stockton, CA asparagus (April 17) contests.

Not like you’re going to get a seat at Toojays – 10 seats available + 20000 dollar purse = No one ranked below 20 is going to be competing. Same thing happened last year at King Cake.

You really think MLE would not include me when I am the hometown eater?

If #1 – #10 singed up for toojays, they would care less about having wrecking ball compete.

Lets think for a minute, the point of these things it to get people there watching. Do you think more people will travel from out of state to follow their favorite competitive eater or do you think a lesser ranked eater that grew up here their whole lives could get more people to attend? So why wouldnt they want me to do it?

The point is actually to get media there because it’s basically one big advertisement. You could argue how best to do that (big names or local eaters), but it’s really not about getting bodies through the door because nobody is buying tickets or merchandise or concessions or paying for parking.

Is it more about sponsorship or viewership? I remember a few socal MLE events where local names were brushed aside in favor of bigger names…

Sean, rank has its privileges. You should know that, coming from a military background. If ten eaters from the top 20 sign up, you won’t get a seat. You could be the first person to sign up when the contest opens; if someone higher ranked wants a spot, they’ll get it. There is no such thing as first come, first served when it comes to signing up for contests.

Maybe now “small ball” will realize why signing the contract wasn’t really such a great idea?

Well I guess we will have to see when that situation happens. If I don’t get a seat in the corned beef sandwiches then you are right but if I do get a seat then I am right. @x no, either way I have no regrets signing my membership agreement, I still get to compete with the premier eaters in the world so I am happy!
