I must say that I disagree about Wing Bowl being worth 0 points. If the IFOCE is going to “endorse” it, or have its name associated with it. Then it needs to offer some point value. After all, the top three eaters did put on a hellofa performance and deserve something.

As it stands, poor Pat Bertoletti, the second ranked IFOCE eater in the US now has zero points, totally discounting his WB 15 effort, and Joey and Sonya get nothing. That’s simply not right. The IFOCE should, for lack of better words, either sh** or get off the pot! Why straddle the fence?

Anyone have weight totals (or close approximations) for Jason Erb, El Toro, and Kevin Ross? Anyone else besides Todd Yeates compete and fall outside the top ten?

Pat B has 19 points in fantasy eating, though! Ten points of which were awarded for WB. 😉

Liz, what I know is that I ate 2.5-3 pounds. I had four trays in front of me at the end. When the remainders were scooped and put into one tray, it ended up being a heaping tray that was not too much bigger than 1lb. So I had 3 empty trays and 1 heaping one. It doesn’t make sense I wouldn’t be 9th or 10th. I have a feeling that they might not have seen one of my trays and recorded me for a pound less than I actually ate. I put an inquiry into the powers that be to get the straight story of what really happened. I.e. I’m hoping that they can give the actual weights for 9,10,11,12 place. Because something sure seems fishy.

if the ifoce can update the point standings then shouldnt that mean they know everyones weights because how can you in any accurate way determine 1-10 without weights?

    Liz,
Pat’s a nice guy and all, but in the world of Fantasy Eating, people dont care about his performances. We want to hear about eaters like Humble Bob,and Beautiful Brian. The fans wanna know what Micah Collins had for breakfast yesterday, and was it stiil alive when he took his first bite. They want to read about Russ Keelers Ketchup addiction. They want the inside story of how Seaver brings kabobs to a house fire. They want photos of Pete Davekos.

If you dont eat for the Meatsweats, then you should probably just hang up your fork. How do I know?
    My son told me.

    ‘TOBA! Ehh?

They tried to kill it for years. Ask Don & Kevin if they wanted them to compete in it going back to Wing Bowl 9-11. They were strongly discouraged.

When they realized they couldn’t kill the wildest eating event on the Planet, they co-opted it. Because of the strippers & they don’t control it, they still treat it like a red headed step child.

Liz I like your Fantasy Eating scoring system. You keep up for it and it means something to the eaters and fans alike. It’s fun. Thank you.

You take that back Steakbellie! Pat Bertoletti is going to be the Fantasy Major League Eating MVP this year by leading the Hungry Hooligans to a first place finish. Just you wait and see.

As for Queen Mary totals, SOMEONE has to know what all 12 eaters finishing totals are. Where are the weights? How do we know that El Toro finished in 10th place, just a few ounces ahead of whoever finished in 11th?

Picture being an MLE fan, sitting in your office on an idle Tuesday in late 2007. With all of this excitement surrounding the points positions it will create for a great deal of so-called ‘water cooler discussion.’ The points system is something that a true fan can appreciate.

    MM,
I have no problem with this ‘Pat Bertoletti’ person. I’m sure he will turn into a fine eater someday and possibly even have a shot at trying out for the Meatsweats next year.

The bigger issue is your laissez faire coaching style. No logo, no web page, no shoes, no service. How bout some chatter in the field Dave?

    Nothing.

Exactly. There’s no reason not to list the precise weights to show that the points are based on something concrete. Hypothetically, if something went wrong and the totals were lost or not accurately recorded, I’d respect it if they came out and said “we goofed. . .we’re not sure who is 9-12 exactly. . .” But if they weren’t sure and just guessed, then that’s not cool and unfair to the eaters involved. What’s odd is the queen mary contest last year was one of the most accurately recorded contests of the year, down to the last finisher. So I thought for sure it would be the same deal this time around. Though of course, it’s ridiculous for me to complain too much because fact is I did a terrible job. I wouldn’t be wondering if something went wrong if I had eaten well over 3lbs and was clearly in the money.

Take a poll as to whether Sonya Thomas should take down the picture of Beautiful Brian from her website

Well, I just found out from Ryan Nerz why I didn’t place as high as I thought I would. . .I was counted with about 1.5 pounds. . .when in actuality I ate about 2.5 pounds. . .someone actually MISSED one of my empty trays and counted me for an entire pound less than what I actually ate. That really sucks. . .

I knew it . That explains the low totals for other eaters in meatballs , chicken wings & turkey invitational in the past years . God only knows how many times they have screwed up in the past and that is what really sucks!

They are human, but I think it does happen a bit too often. It also happens with the top finishers as well as the table enders. It’s likely a combination of plates sticking together / miscounting plates, improper weighing, and a lack of applying basic math skills.

Just like referees in othe professional sports require training, so do judges in competitive eating. If we want to make it a sport, then let’s (they should) treat it like one and go full tilt. If it’s to be treated like a side show, then just continue to wear the carnival barker hats and laugh it up. But stop saying it’s a sport if you do.

Now, now. . .I wasn’t implying they messed up for other people’s totals or for other contests. . .And I wasn’t implying they messed up on purpose. . I was just saying that they messed up on me in this one incident. Anything else would just be speculation.

What a shock! A screw up or controversy in an ifoce event. The real shock is when there isn’t controversy. Get used to it KevinRoss.
