New Poll: # of Belly Buster burger finishers
The new poll asks how many eaters in the world do you believe are capable of finishing Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub’s 15 pound Belly Buster burger (10.5 pounds of meat) in under 3 hours without assistance. No one has yet to complete that sandwich singlehandedly.

There is no way it was anywhere close to that. . .nobody has that kind of capacity. . .
I looked up nutritional info for krystal and it looks like maybe 2 ounces each or so. . .97 krystals would be 194 ouces or a little over 12 pounds, which is still ridiculous. . .add water and you’re getting WAY up there, but still nowhere close to 24lbs.

Mad Stork, even though Joey and Koby ate an unbelievable amount they did not eat quite 24 lbs, counting the water. Let’s take a look.
Each Krystal Burger is 68 grams (go to http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-C00001-01c22Cu.html). That translates to 2.4 oz per Krystal (1gram = .0353 oz). Koby ate 97, so 97 x 2.4 oz = 232.8 oz / 16 = 14.55 lbs.
Water = 8 lbs per gallon, or one lbs per pint. I think they each likely consumed about 1/2 to 3/4 of a gallon of water, making the liquid total equal to 4 – 6 lbs. (I’m sure a lot of the water was spilled.)
So 6 ponds of water added to the 14.55 lbs of food would equal 20.55 lbs of food and water — in only 8 minutes! So you are not too far off.
After devouring so much food and water, I doubt they could have eaten much more even if another 8 minutes was added on. And, it takes 5 – 10 minutes for the brain to fully detect the entire amount of food eaten. So those boys were likely spent!
But there is no doubt in my mind that in 3 hours, those two, along with Sonya, Rich, Pat, Tim, and Juliet would all put a hurtin’ on that Belly Buster.

OK
so Krystals was 12lbs of food in 12 minutes. (not counting the water they consumed) That would give Joey and Koby 2 hours and 48 minutes to lick their plates of the remaining 3lbs of debris. Sounds feasible, for at least six MLE eaters and a youtube full of Japanese Eaters.

I think there are literally hundreds of people in this world who could achieve that feat. Okay, I can hear what you’re thinking, “Rhonda has f*****n’lost it! (Actually, I did years ago.) Nevertheless, let me explain.
The competitive eaters we all know, love, and hear about represent a mere sneeze of the total population on this planet. Though the popularity of CE is growing, most all people either don’t know about it, abhor it, or think it’s a big joke. As such, at least 99.999999 % of the population of this world have never attempted anything like it.
The multitudes of proverbial bushes hiding all these potential eaters have not yet been beaten. So there are more Kobayashis, Joeys and Sonyas out there, but they (and we) just don’t know it yet.
Still, even if there are a few hundreds that could achieve that feat–lets say 500–that’s only 500 of approximately 6.5 billion people living on this earth. Percentage-wise, that would only be .00000076 percent!! That’s incredible.
Okay, today was Math day in the Rhonda Evans household. I’m done.

The Rex Features article is from 2004. The Wall of Fame plaque lists 2005 dates for both finishers.

It’s difficult to look at somone with 15 pound or 20 pound capacity and assume that they’d be able to eat 15 pound burger. 15 pounds of one food (i.e. pasta or a sugary dessert) is very different from a gastrointestinal standpoint than a meat-based food like the burger. The massive amount of protein and fat in the 10 pounds of beef alone can do unpredicable things to an eater’s appetite (Koby himself said this same thing in the MTV True Life show).
Who knows. But perhaps some eaters can force it down before their body has a chance to tell them to stop.

Dave,
I think thats exactly why only a handful of people can do it. Thats why there’s an ‘us’ and a ‘them’

Mega that’s called the “Meat Sweats.” I learned that from reading Crazy Legs writings the past few year. As “Crazy Legs” proclaims, “When most eaters get the meat sweats, they perspire. Sonya glows.”
There few known eaters better at “meat sweat” (high protein) foods than Sonya Thomas.
She would not EVEN need a full 2 hours — let alone 3 (she would probably laugh at having so much time) — and that 15-lbs burger would be merely a memory! I am absolutely certain of it, just as sure as I am sitting here. That is her game! (But a game she has yet to be able to play.)
If Denny would like to see that happen let him make it worthwhile for Sonya. She could probably arrange something with the IFOCE. I’m not sure about that aspect of it but I would think so.

I think its safe to say Sonyas capacity is far greater than anyone’s except Kobys!! She was born that way.

If you compare burger eaters to hot dog eaters using poundage, Eater that can consume 9lbs of burger meat is usually good for 30- 35 hot dogs and buns. Eater that consumes around the 5 lb mark is good for 20 -22 dogs and buns. 3lbs of burger meat 10-13 dogs and buns.. Carmines meatball contest is a good comparison

Many would not say that for the same reason you would not say that Stork Stupidity. I’ll say this after Sonya ate the 9 pound burger she wanted to eat another one. She had the crew wrap her up the larger heavier display burger to go. You have alot to learn MAD, if most of the contests she was in were 15 minutes or longer sorry buddy only a few people on earth could mess with this lady!! I rest my case

Anonymous you are absolutely correct. She is a virtual bottomless pit, whose capacity over the long haul has never been tested at all. I just hope people don’t come down on Sonya because we have stated that.
And stating that absolutely DOES NOT take anything from the other terrific eaters on the circuit. It actually complements the sport as a whole. There is so much talent out there these days. Distance eating is simply Sonya’s forte’.
I also read that after the 2006 Crab Cake contest, after Sonya ate 46 in 10 minutes, she was spotted eating a steak only minutes later. Go to http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/food_and_drink/features/article853527.ece and the next to last paragraph.
Additionally, I read in the Washington Times a couple of years or so ago that Redskin Randy Thomas himself stated that after Sonya ate the 5 1/2 lbs of Shrimp at Outback Steakhouse in VA (FHM eating challenge), she sat down a few minutes later and ate a Steak dinnner with extra fries and a bloomin’ onion. He could not believe it.
