The id number for the contests list just hit 20000 (http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=contests&id=20000). This means there are now 20000 eating contests and challenges somewhere in the database. Thanks for everyone's contributions (Today is the 8th anniversary of the debut of the database in 2006).
Eatfeats.com was down from about 5:30 pm to 3 am due to power issues with dreamhost. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Eatfeats.com has been moved to a new web host. Once the domain server change has propagated throughout the internet, I do not think there should be any notable site differences. (If you are reading this, then the domain change has already been made by your ISP). Apologies for the abysmal site performance over the past week.

New eatfeats state / metro region blog categories

For a “Festivus” present to eatfeats users, I have made available new state and metropolitan area categories which are listed after “More posts about:” in the post headers. A significant percentage of EatFeats search queries are for region specific eating challenges and contests and hopefully the new categories will help satisfy those requests.

A list of the categories is available after the jump:

End of Year / Decade poll choices

This website will be running some end of year & decade polls over the remainder of December. A list of the current choices for the yearly competitive eater polls is available after the jump. Please list any suggestions you think should be added to the polls in the comments. The polls will start in 2 or 3 days.

The new poll asks who you think is the competitive eater of the decade. Nobuyuki Shirota defeated Kobayashi in 3 out of the 4 Food Battle Club contests if you are questioning why he is listed.

Unregistered commenting restriction implemented

There was a recent desire for more innovation on eatfeats in an anonymous comment. To satisfy that request, a change in unregistered commenting policy was implemented over the weekend. Over half of the problematic unregistered comments have originated from one ISP. Users on that network who have not logged in now no longer receive a comment form. Unregistered commenting for additional ISPs can be disabled as needed.

Apologies to the legitimate unregistered commenters of that ISP.

This blog has been upgraded to Wordpress 2.8.4. There should not be any notable changes except for some minor differences on some of the administration pages.
I am not sure what happened, but some people have been getting a "Forbidden" error message for everything on eatfeats. Restoring a backup appears to have fixed things. Comments made today have unfortunately been lost, apologies for the inconvenience.
The new poll asks what discontinued contest you would most like to see return.
The new poll asks what type of handicap in competitive eating is most justified. Some commenters have requested a bonus for older competitors.
The new poll asks who you think will be named IFOCE rookie of the year at the Nathan's finals ceremonies.

Top 25 poll now open

The top 25 poll at http://eatfeats.com/rankings.php is now accepting votes.

Votes will be categorized by whether a user is registered and logged in or not.

There is nothing to prevent multiple voting, but only the first vote from a logged in user will be counted in the registered votes.

To assist voting, a list of the top 50 Nathan’s qualifier performances so far is available after the jump.

EatFeats top 25 poll to start

An inactive form for an IFOCE ranking poll has been set up at http://eatfeats.com/rankings.php The choices consists of all of the current IFOCE top 50 who have a result in the past year, Sean Gordon, RJ Frasca, Yasir Salem, Bryan Beard, Pat Bruss, Matt Ventre, Mongo Marquez, Pete Miernicki, Bruce “the Hangman” Pobanz and Steven Ramirez II.

If you think someone who has a contest result from the past year should be added to the poll choices, comment or email and he or she will be added. (If you would like to be removed, that request will also be accomodated)

The poll will start accepting votes in a day or two. I would like to do a non-IFOCE poll and eventually a unified poll.

The new poll asks what you think is the top streak in competitive eating history.

Upcoming poll – top CE streaks

The next poll will be the top streaks in competitive eating. The current choices are listed below. Please add any additional streaks you think should be added in the contests.

  • Sonya Thomas – undefeated against women in entire career
  • Takeru Kobayashi – undefeated in the IFOCE 2001-2006 (undefeated overall 2003-2006)
