That argument is old, old, old, especially with Sonya. Sonya is only 100 pounds, for God’s sake, and she probably needed every hot dog and then some, just to maintain her weight.
Whether the contest occured or not, and whether the totals for all eaters amounted to 1,000,000 or 1 dog, those starving people will continue to starve, hence the reason for international charities.
I would write an essay, giving the author a piece of my mind, if I thought the reading audience was substantial. but it’s not. and since I’ve been on this earth for well over 30-some years, and have more important things to attend to, I’ll just leave it alone.

It’s the same old blah, blah, blah people on their high horses always give. And of course it’s totally hypocritical because this same person probably has money to pay for college tutition, designer clothes, sushi dinners, flat screen tv, automobile, etc, etc, etc – all expensive things that unfortunate people across the world do not have access to and whose value could pay for them to eat for a long time. A lot longer than the value of the food eaten in contests. So unless the dude writing this article is living like a pauper in order to improve other people’s lives, then he should shut his word hole.

Rhonda,
Great point. If all of the contests stopped today, it wouldnt effect Hunger in ANY way. I think people think CE is an easy KickBoy, because they dont expect anyone with intellegence to be involved. While that is true in my own case, so many of you are very bright and can defend this sport with prejudice.
The writer is clearly angry about something, and wont be swayed by a rebuttal, but the other readers of the article might come to intestinal enlightenment. MIght be worth a shot accross the bow.
