DPark76 has a video of Takeru Kobayashi's appearance at The Rock Tysons church in Vienna, Virginia where he ate 20 hot dogs in 2 minutes and drank a gallon of milk in 20 seconds.

Hoffman’s promotion strategy is to now have Kobayashi eat at church youth events. What’s next, family reunions, kids birthdays, college keggers, and bachelorette parties? I guess he screwed over Guinness too going with those Record Breaker people, so he can’t even do staged Guinness events. I guess Kobi’s management figured out that he can only keep on beating up independent eaters for so long that he now has to eat by himself at these dog and pony shows. Notice how local papers don’t even cover Kobi self masticating. Maybe even Hoffmann’s is starting to realize that nobody cares about Kobi anymore and is starting to question having him as a promoter. He WAS a champion with Nathan’s hot dogs. All Hoffman’s is getting out of Kobi is reminding everybody that he once ate a lot of Nathan’s hot dogs, duh? It would be precious to see if Kobi goes running back to Crif Dog come July 4th after Kobi’s screwed them over too. Note to any potential Kobi sponsors, better get Kobi to sign a contract or the next day he will be eating at your rival company’s eating event, just ask Crif Dogs. He was eating a Crif Dog rival hot dog a month after the Crif Dog event. So when Kobi says Hoffmann’s hot dogs are the best, what sucker’s going to believe him? Real smart PR.

Insecurity is driving nasty comments by people jealous of Kobayashi. I did get a good laugh out of FAKER’s comments, however.

Hey, I am (mostly) pro-MLE too, but I, like the vast majority of people who have been exposed to competitive eating, view Koby as the most recognized competitive eater on the planet—-the face of CE.

July 4, 2001 marked the beginning of a new era in competitive eating. Professional CE, for all practical purposes, was nonexistent until our nation’s first birthday in this new millenium, marked by Kobayashi’s double-the-previous-year-performance with 50 HDBs. Since then, TK has only gotten better. Over an 11-year span, he has the best won-loss percentage of any competitive eater in history, and the guy has finished lower than second place just once.

Do I think that Koby is better than Joey Chestnut right now? No, Joey is probably a “smidgen” better. But, given Koby’s body of work in CE, he is easily recognized as the greatest competitive eater who ever lived.

At this point in Koby’s career, he doesn’t need to win any events to “prove” himself. There’s nothing left to prove. His accomplishments precede him. He’s the CE hero of this generation.

Rhonda Rocks in Rocktober and every month. The above is one of the best comments Rhonda has written. It gives us the huge overview, the forest rather than the trees and leaves. I have gotten over my disappointment and many other things about what I thought might have been had Kobayashi stayed with MLE or at least gone hotdog to hotdog with Joey more recently. Let’s give Kobayashi his just due for all that he has brought to competitive eating. He is re-inventing himself as someone living in the US and seems to be doing just fine. If I think about it, being in MLE may not have given him more money or more visibility even, he was already number 1 and continues to be in so many people’s estimation worldwide. I honestly think that only he was disappointed that he did not get to try to take back his title, but he is the one who made that choice.

To 9:35-There is no such thing as “re-inventing yourself”. That’s just a marketing slogan that is used 2 trick people into buying the same old garbage with a different wrapper(like Madonna). It’s unfortunate that simple minded folks keep repeating this abomination of the English language.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Koby, & I can tell u first hand that it’s not easy being a pioneer & an iconoclast when most people strive 2 fit in & be like everyone else.
    FTW

Faker, your comment does not deserve a response but you will get one anyway. We know very well that it is Boone who keeps trying to say that he is Mr. Asia. You have a right to your opinion, but these comments in poor English do nothing to elevate the reputation of Boone which is, at best, quite inflated. If each eater and fan of those eaters spent more time working on their own game, organization, contest or website and less making nasty comments, everyone would be better off including the eaters. Kobayashi is a legend, period and forever. Even though competitive eating reached its heyday in Japan years ago, everyone, and I mean everyone in Japan knows Kobayashi and people all over the world as well know his name. Boone is perhaps known in India, so how about saying that Boone is Mr. India. I could buy that one.
