I don’t think this is a sign of waning interest in competitive eating on a societal level…I think it has more to do with waning interest in recruiting potential contest sponsors. Must be a busy holiday season over at Shea Communications. They do, after all, have other paying clientele besides the IFOCE.

I would venture to say that unless the people running the IFOCE become more realistic, more reasonable, less profit-seeking, and less greedy, compared to the last several years, most all of 2008 might just be an “off season.”
Ultimately, a sobering and lean 2008 (for the IFOCE) would be good for all eaters, however, both in and outside of the Fed. Monopolies rarely benefit consumers or its members.
