Traveler encounters Dale Boone in India

Peter Smith is currently traveling in India and maintaining a blog about his trip. His January 22 entry describes meeting Dale Boone in Chennai.

And when I say this guy can pull strings, you know how India has corrupt police? Well Dale not only seems to know them all, but it was blatantly obvious that he does what he wants in that city, and the police let it happen. For example we were on a beach late at night talking about the intricacies of India and Chennai, and there were a bunch of other locals strewn about the beach road… the police stopped by each group to tell them to go home, and when he came to us, he saw Dale, smiled, said a few friendly things in Tamil, and moved on to the next group, letting us stay there. This kind of thing was happening right and left all night, and it wasn’t just the police who knew him, it was like everyone knew him. It was honestly amazing, as I didn’t know a Caucasian, no matter what they did for a living, could get that kind of “status” in India. So I’ll update this story again in about three weeks, or whenever we meet him in Bangalore. And also, Dale’s side gig is being a professional eater… like you see on TV… like going up against that Japanese kid Kobayashi. Just look up Dale Boone on youtube.com, and maybe throw in the word “eating” or “contest”, and you should find videos of him.

Boone offered Peter Smith some advice about breaking into Indian film production. The movie industry in Chennai is called “Kollywood”.

Gonzo: Well, I want to go to Bombay, India to become a movie star.
Fozzie: You don’t go to Bombay to become a movie star. You go where we’re going, Hollywood.
Gonzo: Well, sure, if you want to do it the *easy* way.

This is all a bunch of bullshit. These people are weak minded and have noone else to guide them especially the ones that Boone hangs out with. If they look up to Boone as a mentor and a leader , then it really says alot about their country as a whole. We view him as a buffoon or a big joke and they see him as some important role model? Oh lord would someone please enlighten these fools before its too late

anonymous jan 25 2008 11pm . You have the audacity to talk about people in new york city that live in roach apts when INDIA reeks from famine and poverty. You live in tents with flies, vermin and other infecting insects swarming over new born babies and children . It was the americans that came to your aid with food and milk to help the poverty stricken people of bangladesh. You need to get your facts straight you narrow minded pathetic hater.

“INDIA reeks from famine and poverty” where do you get your information from???? India is a developing country i agree to that.. but famine???? We have good food and perhaps better food than you will ever have… As a matter of fact i just had dominos pizza yesterday :)… “live in tents with flies, vermin and other infecting insects swarming over new born babies and children ” this might be true in some of the poor areas do have that.. but atleast it is nature causing our deaths and not drugs… And we don’t have drug dealers on our streets and shooting each other every single day of our lives…. We are safe where we are… Your comment just shows how ignorant you are… Get your facts right!!! Dale Boone though in India may not be staying in one of the poor areas being from US and also being a professional eater.

Oh By the Way… Just to give you a geography lesson… BANGLADESH IS NOT IN INDIA

You need a geography lesson you IDIOT! Bangladesh is part of southeast asia and so is India. It is bordered by india which means its practically part of India. How many years did it take your country to build a dominoes pizza when we had them for close to 20 yrs. What’s this drug dealers shooting people on the streets? This shows how poor and outdated your AP wire sources are. They are as old as the wire recorders from the the 1940’s . Drug dealers shooting people on the streets went out in the early to mid 90’s . Someone’s feeding you second hand news. Old news if you ask me. Must be those tv news reporters with the black dots in their head. And dont even go there with drugs. It is fact that your poisened tainted medicine being shipped to the US is the cause of many deaths in young infants and senior citizens.

Get your info straight you Stupid fool!!! Just because it’s bordered by india doesn’t mean that it is india.. It is part of South east asia.. bt not india.. just like how canada is not called united states of america and same thing for mexico. About the drugs.. it just shows that you haven’t been anywhere in USA bt your home… If you go to brooklyn, harlem and such places… You will find drug dealers on every corner of those places… India is no where lower than USA… It is just different.. you there have no right to judge India without being here try living in India after you’ve stopped being the stary eyed tourist.. then and only then will you know the real india… Try it you may learn to like it instead of all those roaches crawling around in your appartment…

Throughout my years and travels I’ve learned that when it comes to geography, people living in the U.S. are much less astute than most people living in most other countries. Sometimes we barely know what nations border our own, let alone the location (and political/societal makeup) of smaller countries throught the world.

It is sad sometimes how “dumb” we Americans really are, yet we often fail to realize our ineptitude, which makes us look even “dumber.” I have a long way to go myself in that regard.

I have to comment on this India vs. the USA thing. I’m a US citizen, and have been my whole life… Caucasion, family roots going back to the 1600’s, you name it. I’ve also grown up around Hinduism my whole life, and have spent a lot of time in India in my years. I think I have some thoughts that are worth listening to. The US has problems, and most Americans know it. The drug problems we have are much worse than India, but India is no saint when it comes to drugs. Travelers and tourists (there is a difference) are both bombarded with offers of marijuana and hashish multiple times a day, no matter if you are in a big city or small. I know a fair amount of people in the US who used to deal drugs, and some still do, and its 10 times easier to get weed or hash in India… at the same time the quality is a lot worse. Don’t be foolish and think the drug problem in the US is gone, go to the ‘hood in any major US city, and get out of the car… you can find a much greater variety of drugs, but prepared to see the dealers strapped with guns, and don’t cry if you get jacked for all you got, at gun point. This happens quite often these days, and certainly did not die out in the 90’s!! That is simply a wish or a dream.

As for the economic differences, yes of course there is a big difference between the US and India! But if you go to the major cities in India you will see first hand that economic growth is visible everywhere! Calcutta, once the “armpit of the world”, got cleaned up 10-15 years ago. Delhi is making strides in doing the same as well, as is Chennai/Madras… the fact of the matter is that India’s economy is growing at an exponential rate, and the US is not. Seriously, in 15 years, expect both China and India to be above the US on the economic powerhouse ladder. The infrastructure is already in place for rapid growth, and if you do a little research you’ll see that such growth has been underway for 5-10 years, and is only picking up. The tourist industry alone brings in absurd amounts of money (when you consider the “street value” of the rupee), and the prices for tourists only go up, of course to be haggled back down, to some degree. If you want to see a good picture of India’s economic growth, look as the housing prices over the last 10 years, and just imagine where they will go from here.

Another thing, pompous “Americans” are the biggest problem with the US, and one of the reasons we MAINTAIN a poor image in the eyes of most other countries. Trust me, when you travel, its a lot better to say that you don’t like G-Dubya, than to say you do. Really, we have BIG problems in the US, and if you pay any bit of attention to world economics, the future of the US does not look so good, and on the other hand, the future of India looks 20 times better!

Indian are you aware of the latest news in New Delhi? There is a scam that luring out of work laborers who are promised work, to an undisclosed building while being approached by gunmen. They are then given injections or sedatives and when they awaken they find they only have one kidney. This is being done without their consent They arrested several so called doctors in the scam . The kidneys are then sold to the US for people waiting for transplants for up to $2500. We dont engage in such practices in america. I’ll take a roach filled apartment any day over a corrupt country

Why not dig this up and give that long awaited reply.

“…The kidneys are then sold to the US for people waiting for transplants for up to $2500. We dont engage in such practices in america.” -Uhh… how can you say we don’t ENGAGE in this practice when we’re the ones buying the kidneys?? Wow.

I think someone commented on, what, my parents practicing Hinduism, by stating the religious breakdown of India, and then concluding I don’t know anything about India…? Look up “logic” in the dictionary and report back with the breakdown of your argument. I mean I could have told you the percentages off the top of my head, and you can see it on the streets as soon as you step off the plane, assuming you know how to tell the difference between the people who practice each religion. (And no, the turbans are not worn by Muslims there… that would be the Sikhs.) I could tell you more about India, the different states, the different religions, the variety of foods, and yes, how to travel there, all off the top of my head, than you could probably find by doing your quick searches on the internet. Do you know why there are Christians there, and where they live? What can you tell me about the Sikhs’ history, and the Muslims, in India…? How about the Jains? The Buddhists? I challenge you to do your research… then you might come back with a different opinion about all of this instead of puking from the mouth and looking like an idiot to anyone who has a clue. And just to add the comment: like you said, India is 65% Hindu, which is its main religion, and the home of the religion (along with Sikhism and Buddhism). Hey, can you pick a Kashmiri out of a crowd…? Didn’t think so… and if you’ve ever spent a minute in India you’d know why I ask that… unless you wish to puke out some BS answer to why I asked that…?

Anyway, Dale Boone is again back on the map…
