Eligibility questions for GJoe at Bartolini’s meatball contest?

  1. The meatball contest sponsored by Bartolini’s restaurant has the following eligibility restriction (See May 2):

Eaters competing in IFOCE-MLE sanctioned Food drinking contests within the past 12 months will not be eligible to participate in this event. Food Drinkers attempting to enter the Meatball qualifiers at Bartolini’s or fraudulently qualifying for the American Meatball Eating Championship will be immediately disqualified and forfeit any prize money.

  2. Joe Menchetti is listed as one of the three eaters who will receive byes to that contest on Bartolini’s website.
  3. The Krystal Square Off website reports that Joe Menchetti competed in a pre-qualifier in Nashville last September.

They should not hold that against Joe. Since Krystals were IFOCE-sanctioned, he would not have been allowed to compete in the finals, nor would MLE acknowledge his totals anyway.

obviously he will be allowed in, they will find a way to bend that rule for him. but anybody else who may have done a krystal qualifier will be shut out. they might even let canady in if she is still doing this.

I’m not smart enough to figure out AICE Management.

I thought they had a tag line about their stomachs being as big as their enlarged hearts?

The whole ‘food-drinker’ thing probably doesnt make sense to 95% of the folks who’d like to sign up for the contest and just comes accross as confusing.

I thought they had an open-door policy for any eaters that wanted to exit the IFOCE and eat Independant. Certainly I wouldnt be welcome, but how about if a top eater showed? Is their someone specific they are trying to keep out or is this intended to just hurt our feelings?

Why inject your bitterness into something you want to grow?

It’s the management, Steak, and that’s a great point. The way APE is run is nothing to go ape-sh** about.

Instead of trying to help their eaters’ cause, grow the organization, and build on the positive, their minds are so convoluted by a bull dog-like grip on their own bitterness, that their focus is not on growing, as you say, but in undermining the success level of a much more recognized, more professionally run (business) rival, via stone-throwing and other mean-spirited tactics.

These verbal attacks are directed not just toward MLE management, but towards the ML eaters themselves, and that wreaks of a foul odor.

Joe is going to try to tell us that in accordance with picnic rules, he didn’t dunk his Krystals, which of course would be a lie.

Tell us a lie, Joe. Tell us a good lie. Will ya, Joe? Will ya?

I’m pretty sure I’ll get skewered over this, but if you read the whole release about the AICE Meatball Contest, HALF of the words used are about the IFOCE!

From a Business Perspective thats insane. It seems like a generous sponsor to give up $3K, they probably have no idea what the hell ChowHound is talking about in the news release….and would be disturbed if they realized it was ChowHounds perceived rival he wasting his breathe over!

Oh well. bring the wet and breathy response.

Last year I was told anyone who was involved in any outside competitions was not allowed in any IFOCE events. Either the information I was given was wrong, or the media outlet that claims Joe Menchetti competed in this contest is wrong

I wish everyone was allowed in any contest, but is easy to see that the statement about not allowing some people in the meatball competition most likely does not prevent anyone who would like to from entering. Ultimately Bartolini’s is allowed to run their event as they see fit. I have found both Bartolini’s and competitiveeaters.com to be more than willing to maintain open communications if there really is someone who was not allowed to enter. In the unlikely event someone feels they are being kept out, that would be the approach to take to attend one of these in the future, either later this year, or even next years meatball Championships
