Alexander de Vera won the first prize of $500 in Saturday's lumpia eating contest at the Island Pacific in Granada Hills, CA (results announcement starts at 1:00). Raina Huang also did an exhibition. The contest was closed to previous winners and professional eaters.

    I like your comments toppers because the comments ruin the articles. I wish you would discontinue the cartoon comment section. It would propel comp eating. Right now it looks like a joke. If this is a professional sport than present it here. OJ you talk through the final comment stopper like you are making fun of the comments anyhow why not rid of the child like comment section. Another idea make it mandatory that a real name is attached so komikaze stupid comments go away. I want to read professional info that makes us all better. Believe me please for the sake of our future.

    I wanted to do it, since I’ve done their lumpia and fish ball contests before, but was boxed out. It’s a one minute contest, so really it’s not much distance between new eaters and experienced ones (because random people can often have natural ability to eat really fast for a short period of time). So I get why some places don’t like people beating the locals by a mile, but it’s not really like that in a one minute contest (in fact somebody mediocre like me can easily lose to a local with a wrong swallow). Was a fun contest series, sad to see they took this stance (presumably to make Raina’s exhibition look less impressive than somebody good who decides to show up like what happened with Moh in the fishball one). They could have a veteran and amateur division or something if they wanted to be more cool about it.

    Wonderful idea OJ. How about trying that make it so posters have to register and when they post we know who it is. We can have wonderful conversations and make competitive eating great again. How about giving it a try OJ. Bring some happiness to us. No more bashing no more insults to our families. No more controversial things being said.
