You can register exactly 1pm but you will still be waitlisted depending on your rank

If you register right on time for a Nathan’s qualifier, will you also be waitlisted if you are not an MLE eater? If so, how do you join MLE? Also, if you are not telegenic, will MLE not accept you into a contest?

I have another question, or actually, questions:
For water training, how fast should you drink the water? I am up to 5 quarts (started at 2 quarts), and I take 40-50 minutes. Does speed matter?
And does the temperature of the water matter?
Today I drank 1 cup of Gatorade along with the 5 quarts of water to prevent water intoxication. Is that enough?
Thanks.

Oh I guess Mr Barklay will be doing the choosing..

I wonder if Miki will take this one as well

Barklay is just the puppet. Sheas stand over him and dictate who they want in.

524 first of all water training will do very little for you. It works for the chosen few while the rest are either wasting their time or have no idea what the hell they are doing like brian dudzinski

Thanks, but if it works for Chestnut and Kobayashi, then it should work for almost anyone, if done properly. I make sure I add Gatorade to my water, but I just want to make sure I add enough. Today I am adding 3 cups of Gatorade to the 6 quarts I plan to drink. I add a quart each day. I think B.O.B. drinks 3 or 4 gallons at once, judging from his website.

Why is this contest listed under “unaffiliated contests” in the post categories above? Is this not MLE?

The table is reserved for elite eaters and their “favorites” (wild bill conti) even before the registration for the contest was posted Save yourself the aggravation

Thanks so much OJ! You are amazing in all the work you do for this website. I know it must be hard.

It’s as if OJ has a 24/7/365 staff! Talk about efficiency and work ethic … WOW! 🙂

Hi Rhoda, did you post the above on twitter, and then your tweet automtatically appeared here, since you have all those hashtags? I know there’s a feature where your tweets can appear automatically on facebook.

I actually thought last night what would happen if this site were not around. There would no longer be any discussions and no way to look for eating challenges. It would be much harder for competitive eaters to network or get into the business. I hope OJ lives forever and also trains his progeny how to run it!

Bring back Kate please..At least when she put you on a waite list she did it with style..Barklay alredy knows who will be in the contest before the regestration…Inde for all”’

If you register on the nose and you get waitlisted and question him about it he comes up with the usual lame excuse. Sorry nothing i can do about it the contest drew big attention and many eaters registered. How does that explain being waitlisted when you registered on the button?
anonymous said
September 18, 2014 @ 10:12 am
904 that is not the way it goes. Let say you are a lower ranked eater and you register at 1pm sharp. Your name is put aside as they wait for the higher ranked eaters like Joey Matt Bob etc who more than likely take their sweet time registering because they know they will get in anyway. As soon as a big name decided to register an hour two hours or maybe a day later, your name is downgraded to an automatic wait list What a wonderful world we reside in

And that’s why I guess it’s better to be ranked higher rather than lower. Should be no surprise. There’s never been anything promised to anyone about getting into a contest. But it’s probably better to be on the “waite list” than being wait-listed, unless you “alredy” know you won’t get selected. Illiterates normally get chosen last. LOL!

Seiken was on good terms with Mike and he was doing Elvis stuff a few yrs ago which is why he got into some contests like PB and banana that he normally would have been waitlisted because of his rank. Not always about how highly ranked you are but popularity and function in the event. Wild Bill function is stats which is why he rarely gets waitlisted anymore

I guess since Subich is on the Jeter retirement bandwagon till the end of the year he’s a shoe in for the Turkey contest

If registration is still open for an event the day after it was posted it means the top eaters have not registered yet

I heard that Seiken was seething with jealousy when he found out that the Shredder placed 3rd and won $500 in the turkey invitational a few years back.
Anonymous said
September 18, 2014 @ 10:28 pm
I thought Shredder never won anything? Must have been a typo that should read Seiken.
anonymous said
September 18, 2014 @ 10:36 pm
The jealous goldstein was also seething when he found out seiken finished 3rd in watermelon in 2004 and even more jealous when he heard george shea covered seiken gas and hotel expense to ohio

Brian should be given an award for having the most friends in competitive eating.

September 19, 2014 @ 1:08 am
Again about Brian and Goldstein, why are’nt you talking about how unfare MLE treats the bottom 30? Why bother even regestering if your # 21 to 50? Your better off going Independent. At least you get to compete”
anonymous said
September 19, 2014 @ 2:24 am
108 is correct but Goldstein doesnt care . His only concern is to talk shit about Seiken because he has nothing else going on in his life

Was watermelon in 2004 where Seiken hit Tim Janus up for gas money and won a beautiful road map, suitable for framing?

Seiken never hit up Janus He offered to pay for gas

I think Seiken should be allowed to compete in this contest based on the fact that he was alive on Nov 22 the day they shot JFK

I need a history lesson too. When was Seiken given a quarter for the parking meter?
Anonymous said
September 19, 2014 @ 11:44 am
Janus offered him money out of pity after Seiken cried for an hour and a half.

September 19, 2014 @ 11:57 am
I think i know the answer to the quarter for the meter. It was after the WB 11 taping of the pickle contest held at United Pickle factory in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in NYC East 182 nd st in the South Bronx.. The exhibition was won by Ed Jarvis in which Seiken refused to participate in May 2003 because the Sheas threatened anyone that participted in the contest with serious disciplinary action. That t along with the fact that the title Seiken won in 2002 was a two year title and not 1yr. During the taping a crackhead busted Seiken drivers side window and stole his credit cards wallet and SS card. Later that day George Shea held a Nathans bootcamp in Coney Island in which a loyal Seiken who drove with free AC on his drivers side attended. along with Lerman Jarvis and Booker. Krazy Kev and Menchetti went home. Lerman and Jarvis claimed they had no money to help Seiken but George was kind enough to give Seiken 25 cent for the meter

Ahh, sounds like the good ol days of the IFOCE when it was more of a club than the Joey Chestnut show. Here’s to yesterday.

@1209 it was fun back then. Very little animosity. More camaraderie.Chestnut Bertoletti , Chip Simpson Hunt ruined it.

Do any of you think that the Shea’s take this stuff seriously? They might but if its true then they are more nuts than i thought Really behind closed doors the Shea brothers must be laughing their asses off knowing they are making all kinds of stupid money while the gluttons stuff their faces and make nothing except for Chestnut and a few others
