Booker vs. Hardy promo contest info
Beautiful Brian’s Bits & Pieces mentions that Eric “Badlands” Booker and “Hungry” Charles Hardy will compete in a promotional contest early next week. The blog for the contest producer has more information about the event:

(516) 832-8900‎This location is east of Meadowbrook Parkway. It is a big Nathans/Burritoville/Arthur Treachers/Famous Rays (down the block from the main Nathans Headquarters). Come down to watch if you want to be a part of the show.
The segment will be shown on TV10/55 News at Eleven’s sports report at 11pm on June 30th or July 1st.

Here we go again a very good point. Why not include Ed Jarvis as well? Instead of getting us some tv exposure they are more interested in getting me on stage which i dont really mind but lypsinc to instrumentals from my cd is not the same as performing with a live band. The soundsystems are weak and you can hardly hear the music unless it’s indoors. or a shopping mall. . Hardy and Booker are legends in hot dogs and i am not so it is befitting to have the both of them promote Nathans. They could have used myself , Don or Ed Jarvis for another promo. He look i dont make the rules .Iv’e been bitching about this for years and it goes in one ear and out the other . Whatever

What about Lerman? What about Brian? You could go on and on. (Why were Phil Lipper, Ed Kratchie, Mike DeVito, Ed Jarvis, Stu Birdy, Krazy Kev, Arai, Nakajima, etc, etc, not included.)
See, this is exactly the reason I would never share my hot dogs if I won a qualifier. I give to one eater, I get slammed by others who did not get a taste. You can’t win in some peoples’ book so why the hell put yourself in that predicament?
Instead of applauding Booker and Hardy, people look for the negative and get into this self-centered, jealous, what-about-me syndrome. That’s it in a nutshell and that’s sad.
Let’s face it, some people are more talented than others, are truly legends, and are recognized much more by the public, as are Booker and Hardy. Why shit in the proverbial punch bowl!??

Mitch, I can assure you it was not anti-jewish bias. if you are at the event, you can take a look at my nose.
I dealt with the IFOCE and gave them a list of people who I was interested in. Of those, they gave me booker and hardy’s contact info. I am very happy to have these legends compete. I would have been more than happy to open it up to more people, but the ball is already rolling on all these different avenues, and having more people would complicate things. I just want to see it get off the ground.
People are very excited about it. From seeing people’s interest, I think it is feasible this could happen next year as well. There will be no public advertisements for it, in the form of newspapers, radio, etc, it is only being spread by word of mouth. Keep in contact, if all goes well this year we will try to make it bigger next year.

I am shocked and disgusted in some of the comments i just read. . I have been with IFOCE for ten years and race was never an issue as far as i recall. I recieved a few anonymous hate emails accusing me of starting this entire mess by posting the Nathans promo on my site. I did not ask OJ Rifkin to post this story. He logged on to my site and thought it might be of interest but apparantly it just brought out the ignorance in these anonymous bigots The BET remark from Joe was way out of line and no matter how he tries to justify himself the damage was done . This was worse than the “slavery” remark made at Ben’s Deli by noneother than the founder of the minor league eating organization. So whats the big fuckin deal if i mentioned that other old school eaters should get some media coverage every once in awhile. It shows one’s ignorance if they are trying to imply that i am being racist. It was the furthest thing from my mind. If I was an active eater, in that organization, I would be annoyed that two retired eaters were chosen. Their profiles probably shouldn’t have been offered. There is nothing racial about that!
No one else finds it funny or odd, that the only two African-Americans that to my memory, have ever been involved in this activity, were the only ones included in this event. The fact that they are at least semi-retired adds to the oddity.
I hope they put on a good show & tie at 67 dogs a piece.

In all seriousness can we drop the race issue. It’s never been an issue with CE in the past and we shouldn’t start with it now. Godfather and Bandlands were picked to do this promotion because they are two of the more recognized pioneers in not just competitive eating but in Nathans Hotdog eating. Badlands please continue to post comments as I am sure all of your fellow CE eaters and us fans like me would miss you if you were not posting on eatfeats anymore. As for Brian, your comments about how little hotdogs I ate really doesnt bother me. I don’t compete regularly, it was/is the only event I ever have gone to, and I’m just a fan so what you so doesn’t really bother me. I’m sure have people call you cheap, selfish and a me-first type person must bother you a little because people are commenting on you character and criticizing you as a person, not as an eater.
