Queens dumpling registration open
Registration for the 5th Chef One Dumpling Eating Contest is now open (registration form). The competition will take place at the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Flushing Meadows, Queens on August 3. The event will have men’s and women’s divisions and both divisions will award $1800 in prize money. Joe Menchetti and Floria Lee are expected to return to defend their titles.

But here’s the thing, Nate. Joe’s grasp on his ability to make money is artificial. He is an unintended beneficiary of the IFOCE’s policy restricting eaters from participating in unsanctioned contests. In a free market, because Joe is at best a mediocre eater, he wouldn’t make any money at all. The better eaters of the IFOCE, like Joey and Pat and Sonya and Bob and Eater X, etc., would seize upon every opportunity Joe has of winning prize money, to the point that Joe would never win any money at all — no matter how far he traveled!
Metaphorically, Joe Menchetti is like the parasite of a protected species. He flourishes because of regulations not intended to benefit him.
Joe, don’t argue this point. Even know you it’s true.

Poor Joe,
He gallantly held off 6 children age14 and under to become the paczki-eating champion of Ansonia, and he STILL doesn’t get any respect.

Much like Joey and Pat and Sonya and Bob and Eater X take all of the IFOCE events so that noone else in the IFOCE wins any money? I guess it is a good thing for these eaters that they are only allowed the chance to make money when the IFOCE makes money.
Joe flourishes because of his ability. Being an Independent eater, he gets to eat at the contest he wants to (except for IFOCE of course).

Joe has made a name for himself being a bully beating up on low end eaters but in the interim cashing in on some decent prize money. When he was in the IFOCE he got trounced by beatable eaters . They were old school legends but still beatable. He could not beat Jarvis Booker Hardy or Lerman. Who is to say he could even hold his ground with Pat Joey Sonya Humble Bob and the rest. I say GJ IFOCE 2008 ranking somewhere around 23-27 tops

Where would Joe rank in, say, something like the WLOCE?

Gent. Joe would easily be in the top 10 of the ifoce today. Only Joey, Pat and Koby would come out ahead against him consistently. He would beat all the others at least half the time.

Note how the “bully” GJ backs off when backed in a corner by more than one person that agree his eating exploits amount to zilch

I’ve been away for nearly a week.
The economist and others are partly correct.
I have no control over who shows at the events I compEAT in.
If Crazy legs is #11, I would have to be in the top 10.
I am an eating sprinter. I would happily go against anyone in the world in the Chef One Dumpling eating contest & likely defeat all comers. NO ONE EXCLUDED!
Lets say you’re correct that my eating accomplishments amount to zilch. I don’t care. I’m having fun, travelling & making $$$. I don’t view it as a sport. Records mean little to me, as long as i’m getting paid.
Pete, congrats on Beef Patties. I hated missing that. Meatballs should be for #1. Even if the food is less than desired, in an event or challenge, please don’t say it publicly. Places have these things for positive publicity.
Does that make up for nearly a week of not posting??
