New Poll: next holiday themed contest

In the last four months, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day themed eating contests have been held. The new poll question asks what the next holiday themed eating contest should be. (For non-US residents, April 15 is the day income taxes from the previous year are due)

Ben’s is the king of the matzah ball contests but that is now history. Mismanaged bad public relations and poorly run in it’s last year led to the demise. IFOCE tried to revive it last year with Ruth & Gussie but what a disaster that was. 50 dry matzah balls in a bowl. First one to finish in the 12 minute chaos was the winner. YOu ended up with with poor judging. and a matzah ball mess

I think an Easter Peeps contest would be so incredible. Picture all the eaters behind gleaming piles of colored sugar marshmallows. The numbers would be incredible, as would the multi-colored drool. Does this exist somewhere??

Why is everyone voting for a taco/burrito contest to be held in honor of Cinco de Mayo? According to the IFOCE’s press release, the tamale contest in Houston is the Cinco de Mayo event.

Tacos/burritos are better because they go down like a flash.

Tacos and Burritos are not faster than tamales, Mr. Gordon.

Sorry TBA. You’re right. My mouth(or in this case my typing fingers) is faster than my brain. You would think I would be a little smarter than that going to Yale and all. To be honest, I have only had a tamale once when I was running through Mexico. After that it was running through me, but that is neither here nor there. What exactly are the ingredients to a tamale and how do you prepare it. I feel quite honored to have the official answer from the TBA and all.

It’s okay, Mr. Gordon. While The Tamale Board of America believes that tamales are faster than tacos and burritos, we have no conclusive evidence to support our position. I simply spoke up as a matter of public relations. You, of course, are entitled to your opinion.

    Vivan Tamales!

I like Liz’ Easter idea. Peeps is a good suggestion. I have a couple of my own:

    1. Hollow Chocolate Bunnies: These things would be difficult to eat fast because of how they break. Would a crush-and-cram method be ideal? Or just a straight chomp-and-chew approach?

    2. Hard Boiled Easter Eggs: Eaters would have to peel off the shells which would add a mechanical challenge to the contest. I still think this is an under-explored idea. To my knowledge the only food that must be peeled or broken or whatever is lobster. You guys just eat everything else in its entirety. (That’s why I like Alex’s banana idea still. Not sure what holiday that would be best for though).

As for non-easter holidays, I can’t really think of anything, but this discussion got me thinking about other difficult foods: What about Cotton Candy? Could you imagine enormous batches of that measured out in huge balls? First one to complete their sphere wins. Could be good.

I remember when there was a peel your own shrimp contest by the aice. That doesn’t sound like a good idea though. Chicken wings are similar, It sounds like you like debris food.

Oh my god, cotton candy would be fabulous. You’d need a whole room of it; I love how weird the visuals would be.
