Brad Sciullo finishes Denny’s Belly Bruiser
update Oct 2, 2009 A post about Brad Sciullo’s appearance on The Colbert Report has been made
(from Kelly Jordan email) Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub’s homepage reports that Brad Sciullo was the first person to complete the Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser burger by himself. The burger is listed as having 15 pounds of meat and its total weight was 20.2 pounds. Sciullo’s time was 4 hours and 39 minutes, 21 minutes under the 5 hour limit.
update The burger Brad Sciullo finished was not the 9-11 pound “Ye Olde 96er” burger completed by Kate Stelnick and Lori Weiss. It is the next larger size.
update #2 The Evening Sun has an article about Brad Sciullo completing the burger which says he won $400 and three T-shirts. He made three trips to the bathroom where he was accompanied by a cook to make sure he did not throw up.
update #3 Yahoo’s story about Brad Sciullo is currently the most-emailed article (from Steakbellie)
update #4 PittsburghLive has an article There is also a blog entry in an Indian language
update #5 The Herald Standard has an article about Brad Sciullo. He says his next contest will be Wing Bowl 17 and he will use his technique which involves eating part of the wing bones at that event.

Brad,
First off that is insane, I love it. Since you had 4hr and 39min were you allowed to use the bathroom at all during that? The reason I ask is because I have to…how to I say this nicely…go #1 every hour or two. Also I am thinking that if I were eating something really greasy it is only going to take a few hours before it starts passing through.
I have been to that location before but never attempted anything there. Looks like fun.

The only way he did it was by making tons of bath room trips. I am sure it was AIDED in “moving”, either up or down. We all know they don’t watch you but even to put 20#’s through your body in that amount of time is insane…..no matter how it is done.
Good job

Nice job Brad. Few things to mention. The burger is not 15 lbs .Unless they made it larger, it is more llike 9-11lbs of meat with 4 or 5 lbs of toppings. I know because i attempted and failed with other ifoce members back in 2003. Booker came real close to completing it within the time limit that day but was short by no more than 1/4 lb give or take. He went back another time and eventually completed it in a longer time frame. It is one of the worst tasting burgers i have ever eaten. The one in Nyack NY(blackrock tavern) is even better. As soon as the Denny’s burger gets somewhat cold or lukewarm, it begins to taste like cold meatloaf. I never thought Kate Stelnick actually finished it to begin with. With Brad, its no bullshit . I know he did it .

I just seen a video of this young man on youtube.
He was calling out Furious Pete and A.I.C.E..
What a little immature clown. Even I, 20 to 30th ranked A.I.C.E. eater, could eat a fifty pound burger in 5 hours going to the bathroom in between. Just look at the before and after pics of this $hit talkng juvinile, he has a big $hit eating grin on his face. If you or anyone else ate a 20+ pound anything you would not have anything close to a smile on your face.
This kid is a clown.

This whole thing is a fraud and anyone who believes this is really gullible. Every time he made a bathroom trip he could easily empty out seven or eight pounds and go back to the table and continue eating – it is really no mystery. Denny loves all the publicity all these stunts generate but there is no validity to any of them. If Brad could eat that much he would have no trouble winning every contest he entered and I don’t see him doing that. Wake up all you believers and smell the coffee!

He keeps saying he got beat by Pete once. He was beaten badly by numerous AICE eaters and even an amateur. All he did before the contest was talk smack about how he was gonna eat 50 meatballs without a problem. AHEM! The last time I checked 23 isn’t even close to 50. Maybe it was the 10 pints of crystal light he planned on drinking during the contest that gave him the problems.
Give EVERYONE a break….you DIDN’T eat the burger and keep it in you. Sure you probably ate it but most of it went out one end or the other before the last bite was taken. Denny loves the publicity and that is why it is posted.
I just watched Brad and BB’s video. LOL LOL LOL Just a bunch of smack talk but funny. I just can’t believe that he thinks he can beat Pete. He would half track you Brad.
A bunch of people out there don’t like Arnie and like to bag on him. If you have a legitimate personal issue with Chapman that is one thing but to bag his entire organization because you don’t like Arnie is a bit much. Brad is pissed because Arnie informed the CE community that he ate in meatballs. BB and Arnie have a long standing grudge. A match made in heaven for a hate video. Brad will pretty much drive anywhere to get some face time. Look another attention whore in CE! Go figure……

Rhonda , you were not there so it is wise for you to stop sticking your two cents into everything. 5hrs or 10 hrs means nothing. If you cant do it within the first hour you will never do it. Denny allows unlimited bathroom breaks. Shall i say anymore? Same applies to the carnegie deli #8 challenge. The doodleburger challenge posed stricter guidelines. The owner did not allow bathroom breaks or any type of break. If you left the coffee shop to take a breather the owner would follow you down the block to make sure you didnt throw up .

Rhonda, usually you are right on but not this time. First of all, Denny’s rep has always been suspect as he will do anything to get some publicity for his restaurant. Secondly, if you have a 20 pound capacity it does not take well over 4 hours to reach it. Thirdly, the only way there can be any validation to a challenge like this is if the eater is not allowed to leave the table under any conditions and unless I see an uncut video of the entire event that was certainly not the case. Finally, if Brad really can eat that much he must really be a terrible competitor to put up the rather pedestrian totals he has posted thus far in CE events. Furious Pete has proven himself to be a great eater in sanctioned events and until Brad does so no one should take his boasts seriously.

I disagree Carey, at least somewhat. Sonya Thomas, and probably Rich LeFevre, and Tim Janus, for example, have metabolisms that seem so rampant that they seem to burn calories by the very process of eating. I bet those three I mentioned can eat twice as much food in 5 hours as two.
Sonya ate a 9 lbs+ Barrick Burger in 27 minutes, 10 seconds. If she had another hour she could have eaten another one, and within another 2 hours she could have eaten a third one. I’d put double or nothing money on that!
If Sonya ate against any of those “Gluttonous Queens,” she’d embarrass them.

Rhonda, let’s look at what you said.
“Sonya Thomas, and probably Rich LeFevre, and Tim Janus, for example, have metabolisms that seem so rampant that they seem to burn calories by the very process of eating.”
Why does it seem like that?
“I bet those three I mentioned can eat twice as much food in 5 hours as two. ”
again, why?
“Sonya ate a 9 lbs+ Barrick Burger in 27 minutes, 10 seconds. If she had another hour she could have eaten another one, and within another 2 hours she could have eaten a third one.”
again, why?
“Denny’s Rep? He’s a professional who sells a product. WalMart didn’t get to be where it is by pulling the wool over the eyes of their customers.”
But Denny’s is the only place that doesn’t give you the whole burger weight, just the weight of the meat AFTER cooking. That gets people to try and fail and then they collect the money. That is pulling the wool over people’s eyes, I would say.

Well congratulations Brad, that’s the kind of challenges I used to do 20 years ago but now at 40 y.o. things are different, I think there should be a league for people who are over 40 years old into competitive eating because it is not the same being 20 than being 40 or 50 y.o. (the great exception are Mr. and Mrs. Lefevre) It would be great to see you and Joey, Pat, Tim, Kobayashi and Pete sitting in all you can eat contest.
Thanks,

Rich, I did not even bring Pete into the equation. He is a proven performer. His numbers validate that.
Furthermore, I did not see Brad boasting about his Denny’s performance. The media picked up the story, and until it is proven wrong, why not give Brad the benefit of the doubt.
And, do you classify Brad’s Canolli win with 21 in 6 minutes a “pedestrian” performance also? If so, where does that put Legs and Allen?
Additionally, while I believe that it doesn’t take most eaters 4 or 5 hours to reach capacity, that notion does not rule out the fact that people can eat a lot more food in 4 hours than in 12 minutes or even 1 hour.
Do you not think that Eater X or Sonya could 35 – 40 HDBs in 12, 20 or 30 minutes, and eat that quantity again before the 4-hour point was reached? I firmly believe Sonya could, and I believe X could also.
Hope you do / did well on your challenge.
Have a great day!

Okay Carey, Let’s look at it.
“Sonya Thomas, and probably Rich LeFevre, and Tim Janus, for example, have metabolisms that seem so rampant that they seem to burn calories by the very process of eating.†Why does it seem like that?
Because of what I’ve seen. Rich and Sonya can go all day. Just as an example, after Sonya ate 5.5 lbs of shrimp in 10 minutes, at a local Outback Steak House against Redskin Randy Thomas a few years ago, according to Randy himself, Sonya sat down and had a full steak dinner with a bloomin’ onion, dessert, and all. And the woman still was not full!
“I bet those three I mentioned can eat twice as much food in 5 hours as two. â€again, why?
Okay, another example: After Sonya ate 46 crab cakes in 10 minutes at Phillips Crabhouse in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, she was spotted eating a full course steak dinner just minutes later.
Go to http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/features/me-and-my-big-mouth-482102.html. (Check out the last several paragraphs.)
I won’t address Denny’s anymore. I just give Brad the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. I might be wrong, but my default is to look for the best in people.
Have a great day and weekend Carey! Rhonda

I met Denny once and i dont believe he would fabricate a story just to get publicity . Most of you guys cant stand Brad to begin with so thats the reason everyone is coming down on him. Brad is like Daryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Mike Tyson and other well know bad boys of the sport all rolled up into one.He is also getting the last laugh. Look at all the attention he is receiving? 66 comments on eatfeats, AP wire, news stories. . If anyone knows how to play to the media , its him. 21 cannolis in 6 minutes is very good but how many do you think Joey, Pat, Tim, Bob or even Pete would have done in that contest? I’m guessing Joey and Pat would have done around 30 while the others would have been in the mid to high 20’s. If Brad can drink over 2 gallons of water in such a short period of time and still eat a 20 pound hamburger; then 21 IS a pedestrian number in relation to his enormous talent. Only time will tell if his competitive results will match this amazing feat..

Rhonda, the only thing each of those examples proves is that Sonya did not reach capacity in 10 minutes. Since there are many contests that go beyond that time in the IFOCE, I would think that she can do more than what her 10 minute totals are.
I am not arguing whether or not Brad did the challenge, but I do have to say something when you try and reason it with logic like that.
I would like to hear Rich’s input after the challenge as to how close he got to capacity, and how soon afterwards he was able to eat any considerable amount. Rich, good luck, and I hope you try the little experiment I just mentioned.

Is the previous post “Bye bye, Brad” in reference to the fact that he is no longer on the rankings?

He’s not in the cached version of the rankings. I think he was dropped when he temporarily retired last spring.

I did take you up on your challenge, Carey. Last night (while being interviewed by an independent writer and filmed by raw vegas tv), I completed the challenge in 40 minutes. Initially, I limited my water intake to a couple of glasses but when I realized I would have no trouble completing the 120 oz/2 sides for 6 challenge, I drank several glasses of ice water primarily while eating the rich and very dense potatoes au gratin. I felt I was at around 75% capacity afterward and joked that I would love to have some ice cream to top it off. Boy, did they come through for me by bringing a bowl with six large scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with fudge, a few strawberries and four soft chocolate chip cookies (it must have been a dessert for six as well). I enjoyed every bite and it really filled in the nooks and crannies (an old expression Carlene likes to use). By now I was at between 90-95% capacity (I’m estimating about 15 pounds of food and water). On the way home, Carlene and I stopped at a Burger King and each got a 89c softee cone.
About three hours later after the food had settled, I had my daily regimen of wheat germ, flaxseed meal, blueberries and oatmeal with a 16 oz glass of 1% milk and four ounces of shredded wheat squares. A few minutes later I took my vitamins with about a quart of water which ended my eating and drinking for the night. I felt I was at 95% capacity which is as high as I like to get at my advanced age. I just wish I could come remotely close to reaching that level when I’m eating competitively but realize that will never happen because I just don’t have the ability to process food that quickly.
Raw vegas tv will let me know when the video will be available on their website (rawvegastv.com). In all honesty, I can’t see how it will be all that exciting to watch, although Carlene does add some very good color to the proceedings while being interviewed.

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=111328281 Hey everyone check this out. It seems that Brad has gained the respect of Furious Pete after destroying the 20lb monster. There is even one quote from Pete “School is kicking my ass” . I think Pete is a standup guy and not to be confused with the losers on bodybuilding.com. Notice how the assholes on that site crawled back into their little holes after Denny’s article was posted on that site

Brad WILL NOT be in Wing Bowl. That is an IFOCE event.

The sad part is that towards the end of the youtube video Brad is praising the IFOCE and dissing aice by saying we are made up of 50 members and all 50 members are better than you. Thats the thanks he gets from the IFOCE by banning him from contests and taking away his cannoli trophy? I think Brad made a total ass of himself by even mentioning that in the video. The only league that will accept him right now is wloce but that’s a joke by all standards
