This contest has interesting rules. No dunking/separating allowed. And you have to drink from water bottles, not cups (which is harder than it sounds when your gob is stuffed full). I’m only a low 20s hot dog eater in a dunking 10 minute contest, so was pretty happy how it went with the unique rules in 5 minutes.

Here are Kevin’s Nathan’s numbers from the eatfeats database:
http://eatfeats.com/query.php?_table=eaters&id=944
2007 May 3 4th 14.25 hot dogs 12 min Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier Las Vegas, NV
2008 Jul 4 21st 14 hot dogs 10 min Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest Brooklyn, NY
2008 Jun 28 1st 17.75 hot dogs 10 min Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier San Bruno, CA
2008 Jun 21 2nd 20 hot dogs 10 min Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier Plano, TX 4 HDB in 2 minute eatoff, reversed after contest end
2010 Jun 26 5th 18 hot dogs 10 min Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier Escondido, CA
2011 Jun 12 5th 17 hot dogs 10 min Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest qualifier – men Hawthorne, CA
The mean (mathematical average) of those six contests equals 16.83.
That being said, I think Kevin a great eater and nice person and I would be honored to eat with him anytime.

Just to defend myself, there is a lot of contests not in the database I’ve done. I never said I have surpassed 20 every time. But I have probably done so about 10 times at different contests that weren’t nathans. . .I’m not incredible, but I’m greatly improved at contests in general since my MLE days. Not always having eaters 2 or 3 times as good as me there can be motivating. One tends to eat harder when they can actually have a shot at placing. I’ve always struggled a bit with hot dogs compared to other things. Though maybe I just suck at Nathans hot dogs with the casings. . .my numbers have always been higher at non-Nathans contests come to think of it!

Kevin, I think you are a great eater and you have nothing to defend yourself from. People improve with time, and you certainly have.

Sounds like it would be hard to cheat based on the rules. It explains why Erik didn’t compete. I think you would have won in a fair contest Kevin since you have decent speed and Erik is kinda slow.
