SJ Mercury: Joey has a message for Kobayashi

The San Jose Mercury has an article about Joey Chestnut’s record breaking performance at the goldenpalace.net grilled cheese contest Saturday which ends with a message to Takeru Kobayashi:

“I hope he knows I’m working hard, and if I do beat him, he’ll know I was coming to get him.”

(Does anyone know what the prize money for the grilled cheese contest was? Joey won $2,500, but I have been unable to find what the other prize amounts were.)

    $5000 was the total. It’s a guess:

    $2500
    $1500
    $750
    $250

Previous $5000 purses from GoldenPalace.net have broken down as follows:

    1st – $2500
    2nd – $1250
    3rd – $750
    4th – $325
    5th – $125

I don’t know if this is how grilled cheese broke down, but it’s the spread I’ve seen in the past.

That’s right Joey JAWS is going to do Kobayashi like a shark does it prey! Takeru dosen’t stand a chance. And the funny thing is Joey was born with his stomach in the right place he does not have a abnormal unnatural edge like Kobayashi does, other than the fact that he lives up to his name JAWS!!! Yeah I said it….

Koby will likely wait until July 4th to deliver his message at about the 10-minute mark of the 12 minute contest.
