Joey Chestnut pleads guilty to battery
update May 21Front Office Sports reports that Joey Chestnut will not be penalized by MLE or Nathan’s for the incident.
update US Magazine has posted the terms of Joey Chestnut’s 180 day probation: no alcohol, drugs or firearms. He must also submit to drug and alcohol testing, enter a treatment program and have all travel outside Indiana approved by his probation officer.
US Magazine reports that Joey Chestnut plead guilty in April to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an altercation at Joe’s Grille in Westfield, IN on March 21. He received 180 days probation, which will be in effect for Nathan’s Famous hot dog eating contest on July 4. Presumably, the terms of Chestnut’s probation will allow him to leave Indiana and travel to New York, but the article did not explicitly state that. Here is the description of the incident:

USA Today's For The Win has an interview with Joey Chestnut about partnering with Major League Eating to produce a version of the 9-9-9 challenge which will be available at six ball parks. The menu item consists of 9 undersized hot dogs, 9 small cups and a 24 ounce beer. SFGate found that the beer was insufficient to fill all the containers.
Extreme Eating Championships announced that Joey Chestnut will be competing in its World Chocolate Cake Eating Championship at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on April 4. I think this will be the first time a Major League Eating competitor has done a contest sanctioned by an organization other than MLE. Rural King, a farm and home retailer, announced a partnership with Joey Chestnut and a popcorn eating circuit in 2026-27. Several popcorn eating qualifiers for amateurs will be held during 2026. Winners of those competitions will take on Joey Chestnut in the finals on National Popcorn Day in 2027.

Joey Chestnut will attend Woeber's Mustard Fest in Springfield, OH on September 20, so he will not be competing in the MLE taco or hotcake eating contests on that date. He attended the festival in 2024, but did not compete in the hot dog eating contest.
