El Toro (and anyone else who believes as he does) where did you park your space ship? You are building up your expectations for a huge let down. I actually expect Joey to have eaten 30 – 32 hot dogs at the 6-minute point. Koby has a little mouth. Joey has a big facial cavity in which to drop many hot dogs per minute. And he’ll be ahead of Koby for each of the first 7 or 8 minutes, after which, Joey will start getting full. Then Koby will be all over him like a cheap suit.
Remember that you heard it right here from ol’ Rhonda on Trencherwomen.com way back in the middle of June.
I know it sounds unAmerican and all that, but I’m just telling you what I know. This isn’t a little 8-minute contest like Krystals, in which Koby blew Joey’s doors off in the final minute, this is 12 minutes. Koby will knock his DRAWERS off, and will have an extra several minutes to accomplish this feat.
Ain’t no way in hell that Koby is coming all the way over here to get his ass kicked in front 10,000 people and a national television audience. It just ain’t gonna happen! He’d retire first if he wasn’t 100 % convinced he will win. He wasn’t born yesterday. He’ll eat 60 dogs if he has to. But he won’t have to.
Kobayashi is simply on another level. He’s not only the best in hot dogs. He would win at ALL foods. It’s a damned good thing he doesn’t live in the US of A, or he would break the record for each and every food he attempted. Americans would be fighting over monetary table scraps. Thank God he lives in Japan!
Having said all that, I will freely admit that the gap between America’s best eaters and Kobayashi is narrowing very fast. In another couple of years, there will likely be no gap. But there’s separation right now.

Rhonda, i do have to say, you are very knowledgeable about many things when it comes to competitive eating and that’s great, but you didn’t think Chestnut was able to do well in HDB as well as he did. Kobe is the greatest right now, and they are closing in on him, but he is going to go down soon. Yeah, let him enter more contests over here. He’s only done a handful of contests in the US that were recorded. Big deal, let him come in the circuit for a full year. Chestnut, Bertoletti, and Sonya would likely bring his ass down somewhere. My point is, he hasn’t been in many contests, but HDB are very difficult and it is the Superbowl of the competitve eating. Joey is getting better and better. Who knows if Chestnut is at 60 in practice or not? Like I said, we shall see.

Rhonda Joey IS GOING TO WIN!!! and he’ll win by 3 hotdogs, Hell Koby had hotdog puke coming out his nose at 52 or did you forget. The man was completely full. Joey has capacity to spare he’ll do what ever it takes to win believe that. Koby is a great eater but Joey will win and be the number one ranked eater in the world.

That’s right Bubba. Rhonda is giving this TK waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much credit. I don’t think he can dominate ALL FOODS. He’s not a manhole that can recieve shovels and shovels of food like a vacant garbage/dumpster. He will go down at some point and that will be soon. HDB or Brats, whatever he enters up with Joey, he will have to get to the point where he will feel his abdominal wall start to tear, and then Joey will gobble a few more bites and out-do him. Haha, I would love to see how TK would have handled Golden Palace’s Ice Cream. All foods? Fa-get-abat-it

Rhonda, you’re so consistently wrong, your statements are humorous. In fact, the only time you’ve been correct, was when you said Joey should blow away the competition at grilled cheese. Furthermore, your un-American banter, and Communist undertones are starting to sicken every American that has an ounce of patriotism. Hooah!!!

Bubba and The Sicilian I like you guys (no not in that way), because you’re fun. I really don’t think that any of the eaters on the circuit today will ever completely catch up to him. Not Joey, not Sonya, not Pat. While I believe that the three eaters I just mentioned are truly extraordinary, the mental vision I have of Kobayashi’s performances in Glutton Bowl and the US Open, not to mention his Nathan’s conquests, are simply beyond description. Now I have to go explain to Wyatt Earp that I’m not a communist. So please pardon me.

Wyatt I like your posts too. I know I do sound un-American, especially with my tone, but I’m not. It’s more like thinking back to the dominance of sports greats like gymnast Romanian Nadia Comeneci in the 1976 Olympics or Brazilian soccer star Pele in the late 1970s. No American could touch them. They were simply in a class by themselves. I wanted to believe that an American was better, but I would have been lying to myself.
I truly believe that even as we speak there are other American eaters out there who have just as much, if not more, talent than a Joey, Pat, or Sonya. But until more Americans embrace, or at least accept competitive eating as a sport, such prospects will not emerge for fear of being shunned.
It really takes guts to be a competitive eater in America, regardless of one’s level of talent.
U.S. gurgitators will make Americans very proud on July 4th. We could have two Americans eat more than 40 hot dogs for the first time in history. That would simply be unbelievable.
Now, to address Mr.Jones.

By the way, I’m also a big fan of Chris “The American” Schlesinger, who’s a terrific eater in his own right, regardless of which organization he eats for. I know talent when I see it.

Being an eater I know how difficult the nathans contest is. Joey is coming on strong. Does anybody think koby is going to lay down, not likley. 60 HD is aprox 15 lbs of food, can koby eat that much? I’ve seen it. can Joey eat that much I’d bet on it. Should be one hell of a contest,I’m not going to miss being there

Bubba I REALLY would like to see ANY American win back the belt. It would be insane not to want that, because whenever that does happen, it will have far-reaching implications and will benefit the sport and each and every eater in it, America more so than any other country. As a matter of fact, I think there should be a 5-year limit to how long one can hold the title. I get tired of seeing Koby dominate year after year after year. That’s old. But I just don’t see things changing this year
My getting tired of seeing Koby win year after year evolved into a deep, deep, respect for a human being that I see as one who dominates his sport more than anyone else has in the history of sports (that I’m aware of). So much so that I can’t even imagine Koby losing this year. It’s beyond my comprehension. It really is.
Just don’t feel bad when that happens, because we Americans will accomplish amazing things this year in competitive eating, and not just at Nathan’s-that’s just one food and event.
