Angelo Cataldi “not optimistic” on WIP extension
In response to a Philly.com column, Wing Bowl co-founder Angelo Cataldi has posted a blog entry about the status of his contract extension negotiations with 610-WIP:
But I’ve got to be honest here – because I have always tried to be honest with the listeners who have given me this great career and terrific life. I am not optimistic that I will be at the station beyond the end of 2009. CBS has really not budged from its original offer, and I have no reason to believe they will now. There is simply no scenario in which I would agree to that offer.
Cataldi’s contract expires at the end of the year.

I think WIP is fully capable of having the wing bowl even if Cataldi is not host of the morning team, it is a Philadelphia tradition and must be uphelp……..That and i was planning on making my first attempt to get in this year.

They always say they are uncertain about the Wing Bowl to create anticipation and drama amongst the listeners. Angelo not getting a personal contract is a slightly different situation but with the same result. He’s likely playing to the audience to pressure CBS to up their offer.
Angelos pretty funny in that he doesnt remember anyone from year to year, but he’s very ‘in the moment’ when you are doing your stunt, and makes it seem like you just did the most incredible feat ever. (unless of course you fail). I think he’s an excellent announcer for these type of stunts. He understands how to generate a scene in the listeners head.
Sure they could do the Wing Bowl with somebody else and I dont think the actual contest would be much different, the broadcast of the stunts would likely suffer however.

Like johnny carson or letterman when you are on the air for a long time people get accustomed to you. when they replace you after a few days its like you never existed

Screw Angelo Cataldi, that backstabbing arrogant pompous humorless clueless bastard. He is fooling nobody when he says he is not coming back. He’ll get his contract and then wallow in the ass kissing callers saying how upset they were he was leaving. BLAH!!!!
The jerk thinks every guy with a mohawk is Pat Bertolini

The only time I listen to the morning show is when he is on vacation. I listen to IP for sports conversation not for his ogling and lacivious comments about any female waho is in the studio. Hey, I appreciate a good looking woman as much as the next guy but he makes a complete ass of himself. Al, Rhea, Joe Conklin, Big Daddy all work for me. Good riddance as you are grossly over paid as it is. Franchise Player?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

Not only do I listen only when he is on vacation, the ratings actually go up when he is not there. If he leaves; which I doubt, maybe the show will go back to actually being sports talk instead of stupid attempts at comedy. The biggest reason theshow has been such a ratings hit over time is because it has no competition. Look what has happened to Eskin’s ratings now that there is a good alternative. cataldi says that he might come back on another station. What a joke. He has no talent, and unlike Ray Didinger who everyone wants to listen to; he has no depth of knowledge about sports. He has created a niche in which he is grossly overpaid, and he better settle for less cash, or he will be completely forgotten and his strange career will be over.
