Bryan, I too, Like Larell, enjoyed your replies. I also love your HAT, as well as your logic for wearing it. (I’ll say more about that philosophy later … another day.)

I too, like the first commenter, would like to see the IFOCE do more of these interviews with MLE eaters on a recurring basis. I always enjoy reading them (though they only happen about once a year, unfortunately), and I’m not alone, I’m sure.

Back to Bryan, Bryan, I don’t actually know you, but I’m a pretty good judge of people based on what I read. I perceive you as a very kind man, with a heart as big as your very sizable hat and appetite. You’re a man of substance, who is well-centered, and knows who he is. You have and appreciate a good sense of humor. You love having fun, but are respectful of others as you do.

You are the eternal optimist. You, like me (but probably more so than me), always look for the best in people and you do not engage in negativity, nor do you affiliate with those who do, though you don’t openly denounce them. And you give credit where credit is due.

That’s who Big Sexy is to me, and that’s why you’re one of my favorite people in all of competitive eating! I just want you to know that, in case I have failed to convey it. 🙂

PS: I can tell a lot about people by the folks they hang around, which is sort of a projection of who they are or whose qualities they admire.

Big Sexy is a great person to be interviewed, the interview is perfect, simple questions, honest and fine answers. They should indeed do more of these interviews. Watching contests on tv does not give people the opportunity to better know the competitors, whatever is said or is shown is a quick snapshot anyway. People do not pay close attention. And whatever the media writes is often incorrect and from their point of view or simply their deadline without paying close attention.

Big Sexy is very smart, seems to know and accept his limitations, though I would not call them that, I just mean possible numbers. He doesn’t flaunt anything and fully enjoys what he is doing but is also dedicated to competitive eating. He sets his own goals in a realistic way and talks at the table as well as WITH his hat. His smarts show along with his other great qualities. I’ll be rooting for you Big Sexy, just as I did before, but now with more knowledge and appreciation of your character. There is a sincerity about you which comes through in the article, and that is something to be praised and a good message to others. Standing tall and big blue hatted Big Sexy, Hats on to you.

Rhonda, Larell, Hmm, Eric… Thank you all. It makes me feel good to come on here and read your kind words. It’s nice to see some positive things being posted on here for a change. I have almost completely stopped posting on here because of all the hate spewing out of people mouths. I still remember the San Jose 20 HDB thing and how many people were slamming me because I got deducted 2 HDB’s and finished with 18.

Badlands, I don’t need to post anything about our friendship, we already know where we stand and you’re family til the end.

Larell, I’m happy we finally shared a table together a couple weeks ago, it was a blast hanging out with you and V and I’m sorry you weren’t out MegaToading with us in New Orleans.

Hmmm, It’s good to see an educated person have a good opinion on things. It’d be good to know who you are (Rhonda Too!).

Rhonda, hopefully we have a chance to meet or converse sometime, I appreciate you always having my back thru everything that I’ve experienced throughout my time with MLE. There were numerous occasions where I felt the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze and I almost quit MLE and went on my way because I felt it was useless for me to be a part of it. But some of my best friends (Badlands, Pat and Joey) have all been extremely supportive of me, if not disappointed that I really wasn’t/have taken training seriously. I would like to view 2012 as a year of change for me in MLE as well as life in general. Lost my dead end job last year, started school, working my butt of to better my life and believe it or not (as hard as it seems to believe) but I’m going to hunker down and start preparing myself for this year in eating. By the end of the year, I would love to be ranked 20th or 19th. It’s just a matter of me setting my mind to it and doing what’s necessary.

And I apologize to those that hate my hat, you’re stuck with it (until my hair gets long enough to Fro out) as I am going to renew my MLE contract and will be around another 3 years or so!

Go ahead and renew that strict bullshit “contract” that will keep you from real opportunity. This isn’t a shot at you. You’re a good eater and a nice guy Big Sexy. Best of luck.

I luv when I get to eat w/those who hv been FB friends…like James also. Loll not even really sure what Megatoading is but I so like the sound of it!

@6:19, yes, your comment IS a shot at the person you say is a good eater and nice guy and, of course, at MLE. You may think you are wishing him good luck, but you are so far from doing that by starting out mixing things. That kind of comment is the very reason Big Sexy and others have written that they have stayed away from this forum.

Big Sexy is another role model for competitive eating, no matter where he chooses to compete. I am not saying that everything has to be nicey, nicey, lovely, lovely as someone, perhaps more than one who mocked me several times has said, trying to get me to come out swinging. Those of us who comment on here should all have some respect for each other but also call out people when they are out of line.

Big Sexy writes a terrific post, I am going to answer one question he poses. He wonders who I am. No one knows who OJ Rifkin is, yet we flock here. Sometimes, not to avoid responsibility but to have one’s message presented in a neutral atmosphere (oh sure, of course, so and so would say that, they are MLE or WLOCE or they like so and so or they are…………..), we choose a moniker. Mine to me represents a Hmm……meaning that I try to think about things from many sides. I am opinionated but willing to listen.

Writing well is not a requirement, neither is punctuation or spelling properly. But if you do write something which is frankly horrid and mean and uncalled for, disrespectful beyond the bounds of decency, I will call you out on that regardless of how it is written. It really doesn’t matter who I am as long as I am respectful and will listen to others and enjoy different opinions and information and criticize perhaps, but kindly. Humor is a big plus to me, sometimes a message, even a critical one, can be heard better if it is presented first with humor. And this is not the boxing ring nor the kindergarten sandbox with kids throwing trucks. Or it should not be. More than nuff said.

anon 12:10, I agree. I got a small piece of it, but I was focusing on the general statement that people are lit of fire by a bunch of anonymous people for no apparent reason. 99% of the time it’s not worth having a normal conversation on here because of immature people just coming in and talking junk for the sake of talking junk.

Hmm, I agree with you. There has been numerous occasions where I wanted to or would have shared my opinion on here about something or someone, but I didn’t. As long as you contribute in a positive manner, it truly doesn’t matter who you are. Same with Rhonda, I enjoy reading both of your comments on here regardless of the topic.

As far as my intent to re-sign with MLE, would it be more beneficial (moneywise) for me to go independent and eat in local contests, probably… I barely make enough money eating to cover my travel costs. We’ll cross that bridge when it presents itself. MLE has been good to me throughout my tenure with them and I have showed my appreciation to them numerous times for the opportunities. I enjoy being in MLE and do not want to do anything to put my status with them in question.

Bryan Big Sexy, I am guessing that most MLE eaters pay out of pocket to participate and very few break even. It is the love of competition, the community, the challenging oneself, so many different reasons. You simply cannot make money be the most important thing, if you wanted to make money, there are far more practical ways to do so. Except for Kobayashi, to the best of my knowledge each and every eater has a so called day job and is not planning to quit it anytime soon. You can read the numbers right here on eat feats. Pay no attention to the naysayers and those who complain and say that so and so gets all of the bennies. Those are the people whose comments keep you from commenting on here. I really really hope that you will continue to comment and give everyone a chance to know you better and to have a positive back and forth.

On that note, I would like to laud LMM for many many reasons. Larell stood up for herself and all of competitive eating staring down Grace Lee. She also spoke her mind and her experience about Brian Seiken. She spoke from her own experience without too many caveats, very politely said that she does not always agree with him but her experiences have always been positive.

I do hope that Larell agrees with Big Sexy, it is natural to wish to know the “real” identity of people but this forum allows people to use pen names. As long as everyone is respectful and polite, I still think that it is not necessary to know the exact identity of each commenter. Frankly, in some cases I would not want some of the past commenters to know where I live. That is a pretty sad comment to have to make but it is true in very very few cases. This is the modern world with the internet, and we need to use it wisely.

And with that, just keep going Big Sexy and Larell, I will be cheering loudly for both of you from afar.

Years ago, before Bryan came along, when I was heavier, had I heard someone call out “Hey Big Sexy!,” I would have started a conversation, thinking the person was addressing me.

Now I long for those days! So, Bryan, whenever we meet, should I hear those words, let’s pretend they’re meant for me. In that instance, I’ll need you to play ignorant, while I turn around and check things out.

    Ahhh … memories.

Thx Hmm! I do not care about the true identity of the posters….it really makes no difference to me. Let’s face it, unless I’ve personally met the individual, I’d have no idea if a name would be the true name anyhow. The only reason I wld luv to know identities would be on a chance of actually being in that person’s company & not knowing it is someone i’ve been “talking” to on the computer. In that case I think it’d be fun to properly meet. Well, I hope if we’re ever in each other’s company that u let me know 🙂
