Competitve Eating in “The Simpsons”
Tonight’s episode of The Simpsons, “Luca$”, in which Lisa dates an aspiring competitve eater named Lucas Bortner is not the first appearance of competitive eating in the animated series. Eating challenges from previous episodes:
- 72 Ounce Steak at The Slaughterhouse, a restaurant inspired by the Big Texan. “Maximum Homerdrive” (clip)
- Chili with Guatemalan Insanity Peppers, “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer” (clip)
- 10 Foot Hoagie (turned rancid), “Selma’s Choice” (clip embedded in link)
There is also an eating challenge level in the Simpsons video game and the Simpsons comic book had a story titled “Man vs. Beast vs. Food”.

There was also the scene where Homer ended up in Hell and had to eat all the doughnuts in the world.
Plus, there was the time that Homer lived his boyhood dream by eating the world’s biggest hoagie.
Who could forget the ice cream sundae Mt. Bellyache?
I think the Simpsons love competitive eating 🙂
