Deadspin on Kobayashi’s exile from MLE

Deadspin has a long piece about Kobayashi’s exile from Major League Eating. The most interesting in the blog entry may not be about Kobayashi, but about Joey Chestnut:

The Sheas have also rejected Chestnut when he’s wanted to branch out independently.

“They are hard to deal with at times,” he said.

The author sits in on a hot dog training session with Kobayashi, who hopes to have his own line of hot dogs. Kobayashi says that his “jawthritis” has prevented him from powerlifiting, leading to a loss of muscle mass.

Most interesting is an understatement. If even your top eater has problems and the second highest earner is also publicly saying how little he makes, one has to wonder whether or not MLE might listen a bit. Kobayashi continues to be far more interesting than any other eater ever. Painful to watch Joey eat, Kobayashi is a machine. I don’t know about his own line of hotdogs though. Tofu might be better.

Why would he brand a hotdog? That just sounds stupid to me since most people only know him as “that Asian guy who does the hot dog contest”. That’s an awfully long name for a box of hot dogs.
