That is a really really sad story, someone who had so much potential and had so much help but just cannot seem to help himself. Self- destruction, whatever the cause, is always sad. He was only a blip on the radar of competitive eating and didn’t add much of interest to Nathan’s, probably just another PR idea that didn’t happen to pan out. Many certainly have. Hard to say that any one person or organization has been responsible for the way things have developed in CE, huge credit to MLE for development, but they are not dancing alone anymore.

Stallion, very insightful and well said, every point is valid. Just shows that we’re not all a bunch of moronic gluttons

When he played football i always thought he was bigger than 320. now he is 400. with a stint in the hospital he went down to 190. He seemed ashamed to be a frail 190 like that wasn’t his natural weight. Now people, pay attention to your dental health, it was likely an infection that caused the nervous system breakdown which caused him to become hospitalized. I went 26 years without seeing a dentist until 2 years ago. I had a bad experience when i was very young at the dentist and never returned. My teeth turned out to be ok and i just had a wisdom tooth that needed removal. But things could have been different if i had not gone to the dentist at all. It is great eating with both sides of my healthy mouth now.

Sad story, could be any of us in a few years. I know a lot of social drinkers, it could easily get out of hand and become a lifestyle, much like eating.

It’s only a matter of time before a top competitive eater dies as a direct result of CE. At that time the IFOCE will wash its hands of it totally.

Maybe so. What manner of death is probable or possible? choking, some gastric rupture, or hold on maybe a person eats so much it cuts of their circulation. I usually find it dangerous to drive home on a very full stomach, like tonight.

I am anonymous 2:25, i wasn’t ashamed of my dental past, just turns out i wasn’t logged in. The fridge story is sad, but the bottom line is that there is treatment for his drinking, he just has to make the decision to want to get help.
