Fox Business on competitive eating

Fox Business has an article about the economics of competitive eating with quotes from George Shea, Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman and Crazy Legs Conti.

The article reports that the IFOCE has five full time employees. Shea claims that the 2007 Nathan’s hot dog contest produced $100 million worth of media for the restaurant chain. Joey received %0.01 corrected percent of that amount ($10,000) as his first place prize, which might be why has yet to commit to the defense of his title.

The article lists Chapman as the winner of the 1991 Nathan’s contest:

Chapman, a 46-year-old better known in the eating world as “Chowhound,” holds the record for downing the most pickles. He ate 2.94 pounds of sweet hard sour pickles in 3 minutes and 45 seconds.

“Sometimes I don’t know what I am thinking, it’s such an unforgiving food, ” Chapman said. Chapman won the Nathan’s contest in 1991 by eating 11.5 dogs in six minutes, which today seems like a meager amount.

Joey should demand at least 100,000 dollars or not even show up. 10,000 compare to 100 million in media what an insult! I hope Joey stands up for himself this year and demands what’s rightfully his, more money that’s the real reason the top pros are who they are.

Frank “Large” Dellarosa won in 1991. The big ralling cry that year was 21 in ’91. I don’t ever recalling Chapman at the big show. ever!

anony, Booker is correct. Chapman won a nathans contest in rockaway park in 1991 it wasnt the Coney finals and i dont think the Shea’s were involved in this event. Ask chapman himself and he wont deny what i just said . Big Congrag to my man US male for taking the 4th spot in the Wingbowl and of course Pat B who ate his heart out with 227

type error Sheas were NOT involved in that event. It was some lame independent qualifier that was not sponsored by the real Nathans

I don’t care what you guys say. By my calculations Arnie would have beaten Frank Dellarosa. Arnie ate 11.5 hot dogs in 6 minutes. That works out to 23 in 12. That’s 2 more than Dellarosa.

Arnie’s the best. He’s my favorite because he barks like a dog. Ruff ruff ruff. Like that. And wears dog tags. And wears dog ears.

Joey should bark like a dog. It would be funny.

The “Ugly One” is correct. By the way, the Shea brothers were probably in college when Chapman won that contest. Also, the Shea Brothers were in diapers when Coondog began Competitive Eating. It’s humorous how you infants jumped all over Chapman because of an incorrect quote, just to discover your own ignorance

Instead of focusing on Chapman, why not focus on how much the Shea brothers earn and HOW LITTLE they give, over and over and over again, to their eaters!!!!
