Arnie, I’m sad you couldnt handle it. He comes accross as a great eater and a charismatic eater. Would have continued to do great things for your org.

The reason they don’t want pete in ifoce is because he is bigger than they are and they only want people they can control

Congrats Pete for getting health and a bit of success. Luck = hard work + opportunity. I would say that you have earned your bit of luck.

Guys, let’s keep this in perspective. These three magazines combined have a circulation of about a million, and sometimes two or three or them are purchased by the exact same people, so it’s a bit like having your face splashed across the TV for a couple of seconds on the Fourth of July — flattering and fun but quickly forgotten, except by us. Pete is still very much “niche” just like everybody else in competitive eating is, with the exception of Joey and Kobayashi, who are barely breaking into the mainstream.

Keep this in mind. He is used to being pampered on that bodybuilding site so when he sees some negative remarks posted over here , it throws him into a 360. I think we should all start declaring him the anointed one and change the name to petefeats.com. I think an anonymous poster suggested that a few months ago but since it came from an anonymous, anyone can claim the right to steal that line. Sorry

Yeah, if you’ve got an organization that’s struggling for awareness and losing marketshare to a larger, more established organization, why would you want someone who’s larger than life, great at what they do and attracts attention? Get rid of that person the first chance you get!

this is turning into a bitter playground,, would people either say something constructive, say why they are so upset with the guy rather than bringing down the whole tone of the excellent site with just nasty comments that just say “i don’t like him” with no reason.. its just negative, and now, boring.

    Let him go.
Just like raising a squirrel since birth, you just have to let him go.

anony 2:39 people are upset with him because he has a snotty smug type attitude about himself . If he presented himself in a positive light by acting nice to everyone , there would be no reason for anyone not to like him. When you use phrases such as “whatever” or “Its just food. for god sake get a life” people have a different attitude towards you. Alot has to do with his physical stature. Bodybuilders are not very popular amongst competitive eaters because they are viewed as full of themselves or conceited. Jealousy has alot to do with it too.

Let’s be blunt. Jealousy and insecurity are the reasons for the negative sentiment toward Pete. It’s really a shame. He’s got attributes jealous others want, but don’t have.

Pete’s not being a jackass about it either. I see him as a good sport. He’s neither hurting anybody, nor has he cornered the market on attention and fame.

I give the guy credit. Keep doing what you’re doing Pete. If people can’t handle it, that’s their issue. It is hoped they can work through it.

What better examples for competitive eating than to have guys with bodies like Koby, Pete, and Dr. Big Time, or womanly wisps like Sonya and Juliet?

It shouldn’t take a spinal surgeon to recognize that good publicity for a few competitive eaters is good for all, good for the “sport.”

So what if an eater is snotty and smug and full of himself. If he’s got the skills to back up that attitude, it’s even more of a non-issue.

The eaters don’t have to get along with him, the fans do, and I don’t think he’s done anything to turn fans off. If this were a team sport, it might be different. You could argue that he’s bad for team chemistry, but CE is a solo sport. If Tiger Woods were a douche to other golfers and none of the other golfers liked him, but the fans couldn’t get enough of him, would the PGA kick him out? No way.

Let’s also keep in mind the similarities between CE and pro wrestling. Some pro wrestlers are dicks and not liked by other wrestlers, but the fans don’t care, and that’s what keeps those wrestlers paid and in the spotlight. Either way, at the end of the day I agree with Pete…it’s just food. You come, you eat your hot dogs and you leave. If you form friendships with the other eaters, that’s great (that’s the real prize). If you don’t, oh well, it’s the douche bag’s loss, not yours.

Comments can be perceived in many ways online.

A year ago I did say “it is just food, get a life”…Also a year ago I thought this was all a joke and just for “shits and giggles”.

Now, a year later, I have a different perspective on CE. Both as a sport and as a way to do business.

Mega munch has a point. Look at sonya and juliet. They are the most despised eaters on the planet yet they dont give a shit about what other eaters think because fans love them.
