The Daily Meal has an obituary for Holly Moore. He helped develop the Big Mac for McDonald's, then worked for Burger King and held a "Hamburger Bowl" in 1974 in Manhattan between members of the New York Giants & Jets to promote the Whopper. Comedian Andy Kaufman refereed that event.

back in those days the comp eating events that made headlines were celebrities or high profile sports figures by invite only. During the early or mid 80’s there was a rib eating contest at Rusty Staub restaurant in NYC that received some minor tv press . Brooke Shields and Marvis Frazier were some of the names who competed
