When you sign the contract, they OWN you. You’re the property of MLE.

But, I have no sympathy for those who read, sign, and then bitch. It is well laid out what you’re getting into, and you don’t have to be a lawyer to understand it.

If MLE eaters feel victimized it’s by their own hand, literally.

Rhonda i havent signed an IFOCE contract since 2006. Technically i can eat where ever i choose but out of loyalty and respect i wouldnt do that. Besides , if i entered a local contest and got beat by Will Millender or some other good independent eater , i blow my chances of entering future MLE events and run the risk of disappearing from the rankings period. . Honestly, i doubt anyone could care less if i left or stayed because i am not a major player in the organization but i still think i could put up some good numbers if i stay focused. .I was quite dissapointed about what transpired on Monday with that asshole but the less its mentioned the less attention he gets.

Wow none of this ever appeared in the original contract of 2001. They modified that thing so much it would make your head spin

BB you have a good attitude in that regard. My comments were not directed at you, and I suspect you know that, but are just setting the record straight regarding your own sense of loyalty, and that is admirable.

Unreal: It seems to be a natural evolution (or revolution) to alter contract wording as time goes by, because generic wording often gets challenged as people try to challenge interpretations. Therefore, I believe MLE needed to address that with specificity, so that interpretations don’t vary.

Not surprising at all to find the contract modified, it is not just big but huge business. It reminds me of a landlady I once had long ago. I should have kept the apartment lease, it was hilarious but I signed. It was pages and pages long, the addendums included “may not hang stockings in the windows”……..that apparently went back to WWII. Apparently every time a tenant did something she did not like or want, she would add it to the list of no no.

Anyone who signs knows exactly what they are signing. If BB doesn’t have a contract, it is probably because they do not follow through on their paperwork and only care about those eaters whose opportunities might affect their own income or reputation with sponsors. It does say may not without written permission. It seems to me that they would only care about those eaters who have good chances to make money outside of their own planned events. I would bet that unfortunately many who do not make money but have good opportunities do not get permission to do some things. But again, they know what they are signing. That’s it. You cannot have it all ways as some eaters seem to want.

The eaters who get screwed by the contract are the middle ranked guys who are half way decent eaters — like BB — but never really finish in the money in the handful of contests they’re able to enter each year. They stand to make a lot more cash on the independent circuit, kicking ass at local events and picking up $250 and $500 prizes here and there. Hell, some of these local contests pay out $1,000 or more. Those are the contests they should be entering. They have a better chance of winning them AND there’s more of them to enter.

I get the whole “I want to compete in the big leagues against the best” argument. It’s an awesome experience and I did it for a handful of contests a few years back, but the counterargument is just common sense. Do you want to win more contests and make more money? If the answer is yes, then you’re not going to do that by limiting yourself to only MLE contests.

funny thing is I hadn’t signed a contract in five years or so, I ask what did Id to get booted.? it really dosen’t matter if you sign anything or not EVERYTHING is done for the good of mle, the “contract” is there to protect mle in the event an eater makes it big, then they have legal right to thier part of the pie. they reserve the right to serve as a representitive of the eater.

How about the obvious? Not to be mean, but could it be something about stuff like ” I thought that I was …” or you simply didn’t matter to them? Anyone (including some of the geniuses here) can bitch and moan, but the fact is some get taken care of better than others. That’s how it should be. Any idiot who thinks otherwise has never gotten a clue about the joke. Sadly, there is at least one nimrod here that thinks this is something more than it really is. It’s called a “sponsor.”

missing something makes a strong point. I was watching Sly Stallone on Mike Kay show the other day. He told Kay he used to bitch moan and pull his hair out because others were getting chosen for better roles. He then realized whats the point of getting all stressed out for nothing. You end up eating yourself alive Sooner or later your time will come and it did
