In a WBNG article, Joe La Rue says he has retired from the pancake eating contest at the Central New York Maple Festival in Marathon, NY. Joe attended this year's festival despite his retirement.

    Great job Jammin Joe. You are a true gentleman by stepping aside for others to compete. Would never see that from any of the IFOCE spotlight grubbers. Wouldn’t it suck to have to ask permission to eat pancakes with maple syrup

    Tiny, no Brett Favre I stopped doing that contest 3 or4 years ago and you will never see me on that stage unless I am in the capacity of official or announcer. @ 6:09 funny I get booted for doing non-sanctioned events and the entire time of my mle tenure I was doing that contest. There must be some kind of conspiracy theory as I believe someone out there has something about me they don’t care for. They think they are ruining my life by getting me booted when actually they most likley did ma a favor.
