    UFFOが運営するフードファイター小林尊の公式blogです。takeru-kobayashi.com

フードファイター This part reads phonetically Fuudo Faitah, Food Fighter with a Japanese pronunciation. UFFO was or still is the name of an organization of top Japanese male competitive eaters. Kobayashi either founded this group or is still part of it. I think this was done before he began to compete in the US. I am sure if you google UFFO or the term food fighter, you can find lots more information.

There is a Japanese TV Serie called “Food Fighter” which was broadcasted from 1st July of 2000 to 30 Sepember of the same year, one year before Kobayashi did Nathans:

The term seems to have been used before those series though, and seems to be a common term for ‘competitive eaters’ in Japan.

BTW i recomend you watch that serie, i can grant you it’s avalaible online somewhere, i just don’t have any links right now. It’s supposed to be a drama, but i also had a lot of laughs.

Actually, the tv series, “Food Fighter” in Japan which Gastroboy has plugged, was based on the game show that came out before that and was really popular. They used famous people to reinvent the idea of the real characters such as Kobayashi and other challengers.
This was the original program, which Takeru Kobayashi became the star of. He was the champion of this show.
Kobayashi branded the word, “food fighter” first in Japan.. I think he was the first person to use this word in the media.
If I can find a link from a Japanese site, I will post it.
I think the original game show was called, “Food Battle Club”.
