Why doesn’t he sign the contract? Because the contract is complete garbage that’s why. The fact that the IFOCE feels the need to control what contests he goes to and how much money he can potentially win is completely idiotic. I want him to compete too, but I have no problem with him looking out for himself in this situation when the IFOCE is royally screwing him over. He’s not the only one who left either, Bertolletti bounced and is no longer ranked by IFOCE either. When two of the top eaters leave, that should make you question what this contract is really about.

Remember some others have not signed. Schuyler, Gilbert, McDonald. Even the larger then life and also entertaining, who recently hit a million you tube subscribers. That personality of furious pete is missing form MLE because of that contract.

How come rich Leferve isn’t eating at this contest? Oh he got his wife a free trip and hotel to ny? But poor Richard can still eat, can’t he?

I understand your logic but maybe the parties can work out some sort of an arrangement. Obvious that MLE is suffering with the loss of Kobe at the table on the 4th Ratings with ESPN have declined as well. Lets face it Kobi will never be satisfied unless he gets another shot at Chestnut or maybe 2 more . If he is making more money doing what he is doing on his own then fine but he knows that sometimes money is not everything . At some point pride will take over

George Steinbrenner once said not resigning Reggie Jackson was the biggest mistake of his life. Same can be applied to MLE releasing LA Beast and not signing Furious Pete. At some point an agent with negotiating power and experience should sit down with the Sheas and work out a deal. Too much huge talent is missing at the MLE table

The reason why MLE tells these guys to take a hike is because they have a wealth of talent in their farm system They lose a Bertoletti and replace him with a Megatoad . They lose Torres and replace her with Sudo . Simple fact. Once the well runs dry well thats another story

If i were running the show i would make one exception and that would be to allow Kobi do retain his free agent status by not forcing him to sign a contract as long as he fullfills his obligation to show up at Coney every 4th of July. After all he is the greatest eater ever to live . By placing a demand and restrictions on someone makes things worse. If you allow the man freedom he just might sign the contract in the near future but arrogance and forcefulness will get you nowhere .If other members object to the favortism then they can walk out any time. I bet you with the exception of one or two ranked members the other 48 could care less

The most obvious reason the ratings were down the last two years is because ESPN didn’t show the event live in 2012, and then last year they bumped it to ESPN2.

As long as George and Rich get their 250 k cut or is that the figure ? They could care less about ratings

Anon at 905 “the greatest eater ever to live” lost to Joey the last couple of times they competed at Coney, and Joey didn’t eat his own vomit. That means the odds of your claim being true are similar to those of Seiken and the Goldsteins making peace with one another.

no the biggest mistake that MLE is currently making is keeping dead weight like seiken on board

Kobi is indeed the greatest eater to ever live. He is the only living legend of competitive eating It’s my own experience that even today, when people think of July 4th and Nathan’s they still remember that small Japanese guy. When you mention Joey Chestnut, they respond, “who?”
I said back in 2009 (I think) that Kobi would never again top Joey in HDBs, even if Kobi competed on July 4th. Koby just hasn’t Joey’s stomach capacity—-though it’s close. Take away the water, however, and it’s a different story (reflecting on Kobi’s no-dunking Krystal rout [by 12 Krystal points] in 2009, and his Chicken Satay rout of Joey by over 3 lbs the previous year).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way anti-Joey; the man is absolutely great, unbelievable! But Joey IS NOT the greatest eater ever. That wave of recognition belongs to “The Tsunamni!”

I still think Kobayashi could beat Joey. He’s matched 69 hot dogs before, and had that outburst with 110 a few years ago, (which I don’t know if he’s gotten anywhere close to that since?) I know it was a different brand than the Nathan’s, and I know that makes a huge difference, but still shows that his talent level hasn’t diminished since leaving the IFOCE. I hope that the IFOCE comes to their senses and fixes this stupid contract.

I care, 1:44, and so do many others who visit here.
When it comes to the Nathan’s Finals, Kobi is the only person in this world who can hang with Joey start to finish. Matt will put up a valiant effort for 7 or 8 minutes, after which Joey totally dominates, just as will be the case this year.
As far as other foods, all MLE eaters, including Joey, don’t know how fortunate they are that Kobi does not re-sign the MLE contract. For, if he had/does, he’d be taking 10s of thousands of dollars out of their collective pockets, each year.
Matt is world class, no doubt, an awesome hombre, but Kobi would smoke him and every other non-Joey eater in every food I can think of.

That’s “smoke him,” 2:38.
Kobi will blow these suckers out. No competition! Kobi will eat enough to win and still have time to eat a whole pie (dessert) before time expires.
