The Cut has a report on an artistic happening titled "Supper" held at Ace Hotel in New York City which included a ramen eating exhibition with Takeru Kobayashi and drag queen West Dakota. The event was organized by Kobayashi's wife Maggie James, who was billed as the "cultural engineer" of the Ace Hotel. update Interview Magazine has an interview with Kobayashi in which he calls Nobuyuki "The Giant" Shirota his great rival.

    What is this? KOBAYASHI: I want to open a rockabilly hot dog bar. One in the US and one in Japan. That is his goal for the future? The article also says he is aware of the campiness of what he does as shown by the happening “Supper”. I think those sort of things only happen because of his wife. If he were still with his ex-girlfriend, things would be different. But then he wouldn’t have been able to stay in the US as she was Japanese. Giant Shirota was a very affable person who has Marfan’s syndrome. He doesn’t compete anymore.

    i have nothing bad to say about him. I like him i don’t care for Chestnut I think Chesnut is a copy cat of Kobayashi and he wants to take away his fame . American eaters will get sick from comp eating and eventually come down with serious health issues . That will not happen to Kobe because Japanese know what they are doing and i consider them role models . If you want to be a competitive eater which i do not condone use Kobe as the basis for the role model and nobody else
