Little Arlene: 70+ hot dogs in the 1970s?

The new biography of Pete Maravich mentions a halftime eating exhibition by Little Arlene:

At 105 pounds, Little Arlene earned her measure of notoriety by ingesting 77 hot dogs, 21 pizzas and 19 Cokes during halftime of a 76ers game.

Little Arlene’s numbers seem difficult to believe, but Google’s news archive search also brings up others articles mentioning Little Arlene’s eating feats.

    During that halftime, she also ate a five-gallon bucket of Rocky Road and the hand of a security guard who got too close.

    Yeah, I’d say it’s PHYSICALLY impossible to eat that much. Even if you did have some freakish five gallon sized stomach, you wouldn’t have enough time to get all that food in there. NBA halftime lasts only 15 minutes. Joey Chestnut probably couldn’t eat 77 hot dogs in 15 minutes, nevermind the pizzas and a few gallons of Coke.

    Pete Maravich was the best pure shooting guard to come out of college LSU .He averaged 44 pts per game in college He was also a great NBA player averaging around 25 pts per game during his playing career. The great teams didnt want to take a chance on him because he was more of a one on one player and it would ruin their good chemistry. He signed with the Atlanta Hawks in 1970 his rookie year for a million dollars. Other great african american players on that team were only making 40 or 50 thousand dollars such as Lou Hudson, Joe Caldwell and Bill Bridges. When Caldwell and Bridges asked for 100g they were denied, accused the owner of racism and both jumped over to the ABA They both got Maravich like figures but paid a price signing up with a shaky organization.The both of them spent more time in supreme court then on the basketball court . ABA had the money to lure players but they were like the devil in disguise. Doesnt this sound like aice with one exception? aice has no money to lure talented IFOCE members into their organization. They’re only selling point is “we have fun competing and shake hands afterwards” Boone never jumped over because the grass was greener on the other side. He did it out of spite and nothing more.

    Very sneaky segue Brian. When you say there isn’t any money for Boone going away from IFOCE to compete in independent contests, do you mean that eaters of IFOCE get paid money other than the prizes and reimbursements? There are cash prizes for all the contests that AICE promotes, and most of the contests held at non-Aice festivals and promotions.
    “we have fun competing and shake hands afterwards” isn’t said to be the prize for competing. Just the guarantee that juveniles that complain alot won’t be invited back.

    Did anyone ever see the movie the baronof arizona? Where a made up history was writen inthe archives afetr the fact to create a histoty , thats what I think was done her with L ittle Arlene and google . , she never ate all that, that pure bs enough said ..don lerman

    From a personal viewpoint i cant stand you which is why i rarely respond to anything you have to say. You seem to take pleasure in getting your little digs into me whenever the occasion arises. Did i say the eaters in the IFOCE get paid? Why do you have to insinuate something that i never said. I never said money was the issue in Boone’s decision to leave . If you read carefully dummy i made a comparsion to aice and ABA in “luring” members of other organizations to their organization. That point you clearly seem to ignore. And if you say what am i talking about? What do you call Arnie Chapman sending emails to IFOCE members trying to convince them to enter aice events. Not so much now but in the past . I addressed some of my dissatisfaction with the IFOCE in my state of the “disunion” speech a few months back.Sure it’s not a perfect organization and i agree some changes have to made but i was always in it for the long haul and i would rather cut my throat than be a soldier for anything that Chapman is in control of. One last thing or maybe i was vague on the Boone issue. The person or persons that ended up leaving the IFOCE Lefler, Degrossa, Boone etc did not leave because they had a better deal with aice .They didnt last very long now did they? They were used as pawns and patsies by Chapman . Regardless of the fact that they were 4th tier eaters, if he could succeed in showing up a shitty IFOCE eater it was better than no IFOCE eater. The names i just mentioned were looking for revenge regardless of who they ate for and their primary intent was to spite their former organization . Anyone that is familiar with those three names mentioned would agree with me 100% .

    I stand corrected on the previous statement. Boone is not a 4th tier eater . I was referring to Kid Cary and Leffler. I am actually rooting for Boone to put up big numbers only because it will make the IFOCE look good if Boone can dominate somewhere else.

    No, Dipsh*t, I was asking you if that was what you were saying, because that is the only way that your last paragraph of ill-typed, boring falsities would make sense. In one sentence, you state that “aice has no money to lure talented IFOCE members into their organization” and use that as a proof that “Boone never jumped over because the grass was greener on the other side. He did it out of spite and nothing more.” I am simply saying that you can’t make that statement because it is based on false knowledge. Maybe Boone did it because there IS better money away from the IFOCE for him.
    Listen, if you are tired of hearing a lot of people comment on your ill-typed dribble, then stop typing it. Go ahead, say that there aren’t many, or bring up how long I or any other poster here you don’t like has been competing. The fact still remains, until you yourself do a contest outside of IFOCE, you don’t know what you are talking about.

    One last statement before you go on a tirade and start talking to everyone you know about how much you don’t like me. I don’t know what it was that first gave you the bad taste in your mouth, but there is not ONE sentence in that first comment on this topic that anyone should take offense to. The fact that you DID, means that you read it with the intentions of being offended, maybe because you immediately think that is my intention, or that you don’t understand some of the words and their meanings. I am not going to apologize for that, I will leave that up to your fourth grade teacher. Compared to others on this site who type like 3rd graders with “caps” and horrendous speliing , i come across like Ernest Hemingway. To the ignorant (such as yourself) my comments come off as “ill type dribble” because you know nothing about old school sports, Pete Maravich or any of the old time greats. When an ignorant person has little if any knowledge about a certain subject and they cant go toe to toe with them in a debate , their only alternative is to resort to name calling in order to get their point across . Please dont bore me with your academic credentials and what scholastic degree’s you have . I could give a rats ass. I’m not questioning your overall intelligence only the topic in hand. I made a comparison of the ABA (which you appear to know nothing about or never bothered to read up on) and the aice. I truly believe you lashed back at me with “Dipshit” and other negative remarks in retaliation over my comments that “i cant stand you” and the word “dummy” . That along with the fact that i spoke in negative terms about your organization. As far as my “ill typed dribble” are you referring to my website in whole? If that’s the case maybe i should pack up my bags and terminate the site because cary says so. If anyone asks why BB.com is no longer in existance , i can always say cary is the reason . Now how are you going to answer to the thousands of people that have flocked to my site over the years when i finger the culprit .     Yes, Brian. That is why I lashed back. As far as the comparison between ABA and AICE, I got that also. I was questioning what you were getting at with the comparison. How about answering it now? What are the similarities that you are talking about? Forgive me for not being smart enough to pick up on the hints, because I could have sworn it was that there is no money in any competitions outside of the IFOCE. If that was not the point, then what was it?
    Go ahead and pack up. I will admit that I have visited your site many times. I must have contributed at least a hundred of those clicks that you admit add up to at least a thousand. I can take the hounding that will ensue from the other ten people that have frequented your site enough to obtain those numbers.
