Congratulations to Ryan Nerz who already contributed so much to the sport. Way to go. Going to buy for sure, he is someone to be fully supported by buying his new book.

Nerz probably had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. It wouldn’t be surprising if there was a non-disclosure clause in eaters’ MLE contracts.

When Nerz joined them, the eaters contract was less restrictive than it is now.

    I doubt he signed a non-disclosure.

I believe he is/was friends with one or both of the Shea’s prior to joining as an MC.

Does anyone really believe an eating tell all would sell more than a hundred copies??

There is no eating tell all, disclosure or non-disclosure, that anyone really cares about except those who hate certain eaters or the Sheas or want to read more drivel about in-fighting, different organizations etc. Basically there is no story. I agree with GJoe. That story is long gone if there ever was one to begin with. The stupidity continues with comments right here on eatfeats. Sheas are a PR firm with a sub-specialty of competitive eating. They represent sponsors and products. Nerz is a writer who did a stint with MLE. He was a writer before, then and now. End of story.

Thats right ryan doesn’t resort to the tactics of filthy scum suckers here that relish on posting shit about peoples personal lives and skeletons in thier closets that has no relevance to competitive eating

Ryan Nerz was a college buddy of Dave Baer who was a silent partner with IFOCE . Not sure if Baer is still involved

Pat Bertolettj and Chip Simpson smoked weed before a contest to help increase their totals. Why do you think they wore dark shades ?

That is like saying Seiken taped his mouth before competing to explain his ow numbers.

Thanks DaxtheGinger. Dave Baer is not a silent partner though he does not wear a top hat. That being said, if more people, more eaters, fans, everyone would network in positive ways, it is amazing what opportunities might develop. This is the way life works well. So yes Dave and Ryan knew each other before his stint but so what. This is not an inside story. That is only some detail which might be mentioned to explain a relationship between two people within a story, and there is no story, no tell all ever. Every story is told from the perspective of the writer. Ryans interest in competitive eating was he came, he saw, he wrote, he finished. There are others still interested in competitive eating of course, people making or trying to make films, etc. There are still huge possibilities, just possibilities, but if you want something to happen, you have to work at it and for some time. Ryan did and does, CLC did and does, those people developing things through Kickstarter are doing, there are endless possibilities.

Conti media acclaim has thinned out over the last few yrs. You rarely see him hogging the media ascpet of MLE unless they have some big projects planned for him in the future which is usually always the case. When you say opportunties 819 what do you mean? The opportunities with MLE only apply to the select few. It has always been that way and always will. If you go back in time most of their television projects never amounted to much or they just flat out gave up because they werent overnight sensations in the nielson ratings. Mind you these projects were very well produced very high tech and very creative. Eats of Strength, Tour De Gorge, Competiive eating Rivalries, were certaintly not chopped liver

David Peel once wrote a song the Pope Smokes Dope so it is not unusual to think Pat smokes it

Mainstream media coverage for just about everyone appears to have declined in recent years. In 2006, Andrew Lane got a big Denver Post article

That is so true. Gone are the Travel A&E & History channel documentaries on CE. Even the internet specials have died out . The biggest craze right now is homemade youtube restaurant or home eating challenges . Much less $$$ to produce . Matter face $0 to produce

Great man, great subject, can’t find the book in Queens so I’m on my way to Manhattan to buy it. Nerz has too much talent to stay within the limitations of CE. For once the amoral G-Joe has actually wrote something true & useful. Nobody gives a fat rat’s ass about CE anymore.

“there are endless possibilities.” was written specifically to mean outside of MLE. No one can expect things to stay the same, no one should. Everyone has to reinvent themselves, people and organizations. Interest in CE has switched just as OJ has written, though there may be articles about people in any organization, they are usually because the person is “local”. Challenges is lots of products being pushed, with a fold in to CE, it is all about chasing the money. Nothing wrong with that, someone has to pay to put food on each and every table themselves or by working for others.
