I was also placed on a waitlist today. Apparently this year’s asparagus contest attracted a large following… or IFOCE is just screwing with us.

wait, i know the IFOCE contests are usually alittle bit political with their choises for who’s accepted to their contests, but why would they wait-list Matt Stonie? and give a slot to someone ive honeslty never heard of? I mean i don’t think hes done anything so far to the the leauge to piss them off.
Also I’d also be real interestin to see what matt can do against the top competitiors.

what can matt do? absolutly nothing. MLE is not stupid they have been following these independent eaters and realize that with the exception of Excel and Stephanie most of them cant eat a lick of shit

Yeah! What he said. It took him an embarrassing 15 minutes to eat the B3. Everything else he’s been doing – totally a lick of shit…

You know if you sign an agreement you get priority…

yeah i was alittle surprized to when i saw this posted up on eatfeats, but eather way, i know signed eaters get priority, so im just hoping a spot opens. i really just want to try to compete in an IFOCE event and see what its like to compete with the best, especially since i plan on taking CE alittle more seriously now.
BTW OJ, just alittle info, Ken Douglas also made it into the contest
and thanks A-bomb…

yeah, A-bomb, why don’t you learn how to finish a burrito first before criticizing…..
i don’t think matt will be able to comepete with the big names, but hes got a good record though
no offence to the others but he does hold the best times in many challenge over eaters like excel and steph, and did beat excel in a competition once i think….
so i say give him a chance at an IFOCE, it’d be interesting
and not saying matts anything amazing but you can’t call his eating “a lick of shit”

Of all the contests currently listed as upcoming events at MLE, this is probably the most popular with a history. some folks don’t do sweets. toojays looks great but i think geographically lends itself to fewer MLE eaters and may set itself up for only the top eaters invited, especially since there is an amateur contest too. catfish, fried asparagus, or sweets… i prefer catfish over all others but won’t be registering for any of them myself.
As far as Stonie being waitlisted, no biggie, be patient. Let the chips fall were they may. MLE is probably just waiting on the status of some of the top eaters. There are often cancellations as well. Actually i think it is kind of rare to see the field full of 15 competitors. Most of them seem to have a few less.
There are currently mle ranked eaters that cannot finish the B3 in the 90 minute limit. Since A-Bomb brought it up. I don’t understand the fuss amongst status. Certain guys/girls can eat, even amatuers. I was listening to the radio station today and a local wing bowl had a contestant in a qualifier that put up an amazing 38 wings in 5 minutes. Normally i wouldn’t think too much about that, but i know what some of the better amatuers have already done and i know the size of the wings. It just goes to show you there is a “stonie in the rough” around every corner. Just sayin…
Patience. When you do get your chance it will be all the better.

Matt, plan on just showing up more often than not they take people from the crowd. Cutter is right -be patient” When you do get your chance it will be all the better”. Although if by chance they sign you, doing challanges my be an issue and thats for you to decide. if you want my personal opinion look me up on FB

I really wish i would have waited myself. It feels like i put a mediocre result by rushing into a contest. i regret rushing in that is all. feels like i can put up a better number now that my system is getting accustomed to the rigors of eating/fasting. Not sure where you are on that curve stonie, your stuff on youtube looks good, so maybe you are more than ready. I get good ideas from stuff on here, stuff to eat. I wouldn’t try to duplicate your potatoe thing for example.

i dont wanna be liable for starting any bad ideas lol
Japanese style vs. US style said
January 29, 2011 @ 7:38 pm
Matt,
I’ve watched a lot of your eating feats and I think you’re a great eater. But most of the things you have done so far were “Japanese style” (excluding Kobayashi from Japanese style). Japanese style is to eat a lot of food in an hour or so. US (IFOCE) style is to eat a lot of food in 8, 10, 12 minutes. Start focusing on the short challenges. You’ll go far.
Or else, do like Dale Boone does and start your own organization. Just make sure that the first rule of your organization is that YOU are the world champion.
No, sorry. That was bad. You are way better than Boone. Boone always was and still is a loser. You are NOT. You are on your way up and have already shown us VERY IMPRESSIVE things. Just stop doing all those “marathons” and start concentrating on the “sprints”.
I can see you supplanting Joey in a few years from now.

In case people didn’t know it, A-Bomb was being totally sarcastic or employing irony.

Good point about the style. I think the only way to build the fortitude is to “japanese it” now and then. I stuffed myself tonight on purpose to prepare for wings, i don’t want my stomach to be the one to tell me NO MORE, or slow down during any competition. Yesterday i did a thing similar to El Wingadores cheesesteak, which was strictly speed eating. (2) foot long cheesesteaks as fast as i can. tonight was more japanese, i went with a restaurant challenge, a loaded 22 inch dog with chili and cheese, cole slaw, and desert. I hear that Wingadore actually did the cheesesteak short game in middle of japanesing some wings.
My observations say that doing a japanese food fight now and then (long game) helps with your 6-8-10-12 minute spurts. If MLE did longer than 12 minutes i think people would drive themselves to reversals. The desire to compete is so great that limitations could be broken. in otherwords, in 10 minutes you might not completely get full. I am a fan of what they are calling japanese style, at least for building some fortitude.
good point about the differences between japanese and us.
