Pueblo Resident Wins KBPI Wing Bowl for Fourth Time
Pueblo resident Macro “Mongo” Marquez won his fourth overall KBPI Wing Bowl championship at halftime of the Colorado Mammoth game at Pepsi Center on Saturday night, eating a total of 5.7 pounds of chicken wing meat off the bone during the five-minute final round.
Marquez, who is currently ranked 22nd in the world in Major League Eating (the world body that oversees professional eating contests), entered the five-man finals as the top qualifier.
“I have competed all over the country all year long for a number of years including the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating [Contest] on ESPN in Coney Island, New York in front a crowd of 75,000,” said Marquez. “But to this day, the Wing Bowl championship held at the Pepsi Center is my favorite one yet.”
Mongo holds a number of state speed-eating titles including the Colorado Crawfish title, Colorado Chocolate Chip Cookie title, as well as the Colorado Hot Dog Eating title. For winning Wing Bowl XI on Saturday, Mango’s prize package included a 50-inch 3-D plasma screen television.
“We have a great partnership with the Pepsi Center and the Colorado Mammoth,” said KBPI Promotions Coordinator Jeremy Buelow. “KBPI’s Wing Bowl is a great event that we bring back to the Pepsi Center every year because of the relationship and the support we get in putting on this event from the Colorado Mammoth organization.”
