It’s funny, all the Idiots who believe mle is the eppicenter of CE will say” this doc means nothing” “it won’t make money” “it wom’t be seen ” excetra excetra. In reality the producers seen to have the right direction and the right connections. It’s my hope that it goes to film fasts, and broadcast tv, it has the potential. Goog luck Barry and Jeff.

It won’t be distributed very long if they think they can use Bertolletti to advance their agenda of uncovering “a corporate entity creating wealth from under-compensating their eaters.” I don’t think MLE wants any part of any of their people being involved with this piece. Any, even minor, studio had better have their ducks in a row once the lawyers start going after them using any corporate copywrited materials such as Nathan’s and MLE eaters without the consent of MLE. As for now, it’s minor, small potatoes, project not worthy of MLE attention. Yet, if the producers start hawking this piece to any studio expect it to be quashed by outside influences. I don’t think these people did their homework as made obvious when their original promotional materials claimed the Nathan’s prize differed from the men’s event to the women’s event.

Everyone that appeared in the movie did not get one red cent for their efforts except for Kobayashi. That i can tell you is the truth and nothing but the truth

There is absolutely nothing new about eaters not getting paid to be in a film. That is often true for actors, even well known ones if they love a project. This was covered before anyway……about what is and what is not in the public domain for films. But there is no way that MLE is going to allow footage to be used about their eaters unless they approve of it or are compensated for it, just like in television etc. And now be honest here, I bet any eater, if asked to be in a movie, is not going to ask the question, well how much will I be paid. Of course no one was compensated for being in that film or any other competitive eating film. Kobayashi? Well, since he apparently got an appearance fee to be in Wingbowl, then you can roll that fee into his having been paid for being in the film. Things get removed from YouTube all of the time because of copyright infringements.

Hmm, good points. But unlike straight news stories some documentary companies do pay the top eaters, particularly, the Europeans (specifically the Germans) and sometimes the Japanese. The money is often offered to the top eaters to get them on board so they can sell the making of the project to investors, such as saying so and so is committed to gain viability. In the U.S., people like Michael Moore and Ken Burns can get big names just on their reputation alone without having to pay the talent. And, that is clearly not the case in this project. Now, since OJ asked, the only place this project is going to appear is destined for the Youtube ash heap, right next to Suzilla. If it goes to DVD or paid iTunes, the only people eventually getting any profits will be MLE, Nathan’s and ESPN lawyers. A small studio couldn’t afford any potential legal problems, so they would pass. A major cable network — who are we kidding? Theatrical release, no way because (unless independent) the theatres are tied in too closely with the studios. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t get the money they need for post production because $10 grand ain’t going to cut it, particularly when you factor in legal bills from using ESPN footage without their consent for example.
