I think he won’t even compete.

It’s set up for Pat to win. Chestnut and Kobe are not going to show.

Ten minutes, 12 minutes, 6 minutes, or 1 minute … in doggies, he simply cannot beat Joey. In at most of the other foods, Koby is tops, but Joey is as good as it will ever get in dogs.

You know me, I have a Koby (and Sonya) bias, but I’m also a realist.

On a side note, I do think that Sonya has almost a 50-50 shot of doing the double deuce, but it will be harder for her to do it in the heat than it was eating the 38 1/2 in the air-conditioned mall at MacArthur’s in Norfolk.

Takeru personifies the Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest. I would be very disappointed if he didn’t show.

I check Kobayashi’s blog all the time and I don’t remember him saying anything about not competeing.

To anonymous, 9:58 am: Even if Joey and Koby both didn’t show, I’m not convinced he would finish ahead of Tim. After all, Tim ate 42 versus Pat’s 41 in their respective qualifiers. Tim is just about equal to Pat now in hot dogs.

If Joey and Koby both show, you could, in essence, have a person eating within a dog or two of the double deuce without cracking the top half dozen. This year I can see a dozen eaters downing more than 30.
