Hooters reminds me of Wing Bowl. Who really knows the criteria used to determine the number of wings eaten? I’m not convinced anyone does.
For starters, why the large variances of wings eaten (“official” totals) among the qualifiers? What were the weights of wing meat eaten by each person (assuming this was a weighted event)? Apparently the average weight of a Hooters wing varies from contest-to-contest. Perhaps some of the chickens from which the wings came were raised on Chernobyl farms, or perhaps at Three Mile Island.
In Buffalo, for example, I remember each wing being the equivalent of .5 ounces of meat and to determine the number of wings eaten, the total weight of the downed meat was divided by .5 to come up with total ounces. Hence, 4 lbs of wings eaten X 16 ounces = 64 oz / .5 oz = 128 wings. Buffalo may not be perfect, but at least there there’s a semblance of objectivity.
Also, It didn’t appear from the video I saw that the eaters were allowed to witness their wing remnants being weighed. Why not?
People are humans—-capable of making mistakes. Was there not a second person checking the weights and calculations for accuracy? Again, if not, why not? Each eater deserves that (as does each fan)!
For MLE to have been in the business of competitive eating for a decade and a half, and to still not being in control of all aspects of the contest seems inexcusable, especially for guys as smart, experienced, and well educated as are the MLE powers that be.
No one can expect MLE to be perfect, and CE is far from a science, but with a bit more effort and attention to detail, MLE can eliminate many of the reasons for questioning the accuracy of results.

They weighted them on the side of the stage. They did not hide it.

So the eaters themselves looked at the scales as their remaining amounts / trays were weighed, and watched calculations of results? I think not.
Nevertheless, it’s all over and done with. The past cannot be changed, but if you don’t learn from mistakes, then they were made in vain.

MLE has conducted several contests in the past where the food was weighed behind closed doors. Consider yourself lucky
