The new poll asks what changes, if any, Takeru Kobayashi should request from Wing Bowl organizers before agreeing to compete in Wing Bowl 20. (Another set of links has been added to the big Wing Bowl 19 post and all end of 2010 polls are available on this page.)

Actual standards of judgment… weighing….

How about we don’t rig the contest this time? Oh yeah, is there anything you can do about keeping the racists from throwing bottles and racial slurs at me? The real problem if Angelo tried to make it an honest contest by weighing is that it would expose El Wingo and Super Squibb for what they are — not that great at eating. Much like when El Wingo tried to do MLE and got his butt kicked in every contest, most awkwardly not even being able to eat 20 dogs at Nathans. Kobi should just stay home. The contest is too flawed to fix, he’ll wind up getting shafted by some second rate eater and embarrassed for even being associated with such a debacle.

Who is Kobayashi to dictate anything? He can either eat by the rules or stay out.

Anony 4:33: What rules? Angelo decides the numbers of winning wings, keeps it close between his two top favorites to put on a good show, and picks the winner. I’m sure Squibb and his fans actually thinks he’s a good eater and actually believes the crap that goes down at the wing bowl. But, if Squibb ever went up against any of the top MLE eaters in legit contest like El Wingo did it would also expose him his a second rate eater and leave a bunch of dejected, delusional fans wondering what happened. I mean Joey and Sonya are now eating over 180 wings in 12 minutes in weighed contests covered by national reporters to keep it legit. Kobi needs to find some excuse to get out of doing the wing bowl or they’ll rob him too. Unless he’s desperate enough to take the cash for second place losing to some local chump. I guess the only “change” Kobi should agree to is to get Angelo to fix it like they do for El Wingo and Squibb. But even that would be embarrassing because Angelo would keep it close to the local chump to put on a good show for the drunks, porn stars, and strippers.

Everyone knows Wing Bowl is the greatest Eating Entertainment going. Another fantastic display and I got to see my good friend US MALE off in style.
Koby was very wise to not eat in this contest and it would be a big mistake to try it next year. They will never give up control of the storyline.
I really feel bad for Furious Pete. I saw how much he ate and I’m convinced he won Wing Bowl. $20,000 is alot of freaking money. Well this is not the first or last time they screwed someone for storyline. Remember folks this IS NOT a contest! It’s a SHOW, so be prepared to have your heartbroken!!!
Sadly we may have seen the last of the MLE eaters involved. I was really hoping to eat once more in Wing Bowl 20. In my fantasy, I am kicked out of the show for firing myself out of a cannon into a pile of strippers whilst soaked in Miller Lite.

The poll mentioned “weight based counting” of the wings. This is one of the best options to fairly judge how much was eaten, but it is now fool proof. Imagine this scenario:
Eater A gets a plateful of wings weighing 2.0 lbs., consisting of 1.0 lbs. of edible material (meat, skin, etc.) and 1.0 lb. of inedible material (bone)
Eater B gets a plateful of wings also weighing 2.0 lbs., consisting of 1.1 lbs. of edible material and 0.9 pound of inedible material.
Both plates weigh 2.0 lbs. at the beginning of the contest.
Both eaters eat 100% of the available edible materials within the time limit: Eater A eats 1.0 lbs. and Eater B eats 1.1 lbs.
Yet Eater B is declared the winner since he ate 0.1 lbs. more than Eater A.
So Eater B wins due only to the larger proportion of edible material to inedible material on his plate. How fair is that?

Good observation steph, however, i believe they (especially eater A) can continue to eat the next batch of edible stuff. Unless of course they are only presented with one plate, but in my experience they will keep bringing you food as long as you keep eating it.
I am not sure any contest is 100% fair. But i am not sure wingbowl has any intentions of being fair. I think weighing the amount eaten is certainly a step in the right direction. And some people can eat the parts of the cartilage that others will not eat. Out of habit I usually eat the semi edible parts which would help in a weight based contest. An occasional bone is not out of the question either.
Have you ever been handed a plate of food at a contest and wonder why your stuff looks more innedible than the guy next to you or vice versa? Wings can be made very hard or very easy to eat.
In summary, i think weighing them is a huge step towards making things more fair. I hope MLE stays away from these subjective foods. Leaving the drama for local wing bowls which are packed with fun even if they are not quite fair.

Steakbellie gives not only on the spot inside information but wisdom and intelligence along with support for upstanding people no matter their rank. He is forthright and participates fully within whatever limits are posed by MLE. His posts, along with JamminJoe, GJoe, etc., show the importance of commenting on this site. Yes, we have to sift through the hot air and plain jealous or ridiculous postings, but comments along with the superior eatfeats site coverage are what makes this place THE go-to place for overall information. If you are in MLE, go to them for decisions. Same for any organization. And it is great to have others ask questions here. No one should be called naive or not knowledgeable. Exchange of information is what this is about along with spirited discussion. RESPECT should accompany every posting.

I am SO tired of hearing all of you people complain about this. MLE won’t let you play so take your ball & your nasty, jealous comments, & go home! If you hate Wing Bowl so much stop giving it so much attention. You may not be smart enough to realize, but even negative press is press. Stop trash talking Squibb & Wingador. They are just 2 local guys who compete with heart. They aren’t MLE. They aren’t IFOCE. They are just 2 nice guys who can eat a lot. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again… You’re all jealous! Calling people second tier eaters will not make you better. Accusing WIP of rigging the contest won’t do anything on this site. People will still compete & still watch regardless of what you all think. That was proven at 17 & 18. As far as weighing goes I agree with Stephanie. Unless you are genetically engineering chicken they will NEVER be the same plates. Squibb & Wingador are both admirable men. They behave like champions. You never see either of them on here trash talking, whining, or making outrageous accusations. In the end, that & fantastic eating makes a true champion. Stallion I agree with you 100%! Why can’t it ever just be a good, spirited chat? MLE eaters are always complaining about the contests that MLE doesn’t sanction, but here you all are talking about it because your make shift wing bowl was canceled. Wingador may not have made it into a league, but you can’t dispute that the man gives his all. As for Super Squibb… He eats for fun & that seems to make you all angry. I read an interview with him & he has a real job. A good job at that! He doesn’t have to fly around eating chicken or burgers in India or anywhere else. Ultimately I think THAT is what agitates you league guys. He chooses not to go pro. He could. @ I’ve got an idea- no one was throwing racial slurs or beer bottles. I know, I was there! You can’t even have bottles inside. Find a new complaint to use or stop commenting. 20,000+ people (a sold out crowd) doesn’t have an issue with wing bowl so get over it already. I went, I support all the eaters, & I will go again. Thanks to Wingador, Super Squibb, US Male, Furious Pete, Not Rich, Tiger Wing, & all the others for making it a day worth waking up for. You all put out a great event!!! 🙂

I’m confused. No eater gets to set rules or make demands. Why should Kobi get to? Y’all are so crazy! If ya keep throwing round those 2nd tier eater comments ya gonna get burnt. Who’s a 1st tier eater? Sonya, Kobi, Chestnut… That makes ALL OF US 2nd tier y’all. I know none of y’all has the stones to say you could beat one of em. That makes ya a 2nd tier! Haha All this smack yackin is just y’all bein jealous. $20 grands enough to make a fuss, but I reckon we’re all good enough eaters to not talk junk. I say put talents where ya mouth is. Haha. Kobi v anybody- that’s a heck of a throw down. Im not sure how crappy wing bowl is cause I seen online that it was in the papers all over. Ms Stephanie ya got a good point there. US Male sounds like ya throwing in the towel? StallionItalian I think ya just may have somethin there! Ms Anna Nimity people always gonna get their panties in a bunch when a purse that size is ridin on the line. I may just go next yr!

“Sounds like ya throwing in the towel.” Who is ya? I am standing up for my rights as an American to make a decision I feel is the right thing for me. My run with the IFOCE was fun, I did the best I can and I met some really awesome people I now call friends (no matter what league I am in). I do not think I could do much more in the IFOCE, I HATE Nathans hot dogs, can’t afford to do alot of traveling and most important I wanted to participate in Wing Bowl so all my friends and family can attend and have a good time. I do not regret my decision. I thought it would be humorous to poke fun at the IFOCE as part of my entourage and most that understood it found it brilliant.
Is that a satisfactory answer for ya LrgNChrg? Hope to see you at WIng Bowl 20.

US Male I’m southern- it’s what we say. YOU’RE the 1 who said “the script is written already, Squibb by 1 wing”. I’m sayin it sounded like ya throwin in the towel? ? = a question. If ya callin how it’ll end, ya not doin it? Stop ya blood boiling & read it what it says. No reason to blow ya top son. No 1 said a thing bout ya eatin Nathans, leagues, entourages, or ya “rights as an American”. Haha Truth be told- the only thing directed at ya was the script comment. Relax!

Overall, I believe most of the negative comments here are the exceptions, and don’t represent the mostly positive attitude of the majority. It’s like watching news. It’s only news if it’s exceptional, not the norm.
Most news is negative; most negative events reflect the exception to worldly affairs. I use much the same logic in reflecting on negative posts on this site.

Hell yeah Rhonda Evens. I’m with u!
If it’s fake do something about it. Protest like Kobi did at Nathans. Stop logging in as anonymous and talking ish. Kobi should just show up and eat. Squibb has the ring again- deal with it guys. There were plenty of local guys there that could have been “rigged” into the win, but they didn’t get it. So how fake can it be? Pete did a good job. Not Rich shocks us every yr. Wingador fought to the end or at least tried. Squibb did great. He won. End of story. Im sure his real numbers werent put up either cause that guy threw down this yr. Don’t like it? Don’t participate, watch, or discuss. We are here to have legit conversations about eating.
Stephanie_Wu and Anna Nimity Im with u two. There’s no way to weigh them fairly. I say stick to bone counting and add more judges. Or let each eater have a counter who is with the judges other than wingettes. Fair? Im always curious who says how clean they are. How about a little crowd participation?

There’s a trade off with replacing wing counting with weighing. Weighing is more accurate and minimizes subjectivity—-no varying opinions among judges in what constitutes a “clean” wing, etc.. But with increased accuracy comes more delays, which detract from the spectacle of Wing Bowl.
Wing Bowl is one-of-a-kind. Everybody knows the rules (or varying applicationof/lack of) going in and what to expect. WB winners and high place finishers deserve and have earned praise, but placings can vary enormously between contests with different formats—-eyeing versus weighing.
Case in point—-Wingador and Jon both ate remarkably well in the most recent WB, and in this subjective contest Jon won. This does not translate into Jon being the better eater in a contest where wings are weighed, however. We really don’t know, who’s the better of the two, or at least I don’t. I’m also not convinced that Pete is not as good or better than both of them.
Of the several “ties” that have resulted in previous wing bowls, in Buffalo wing style formatted contest there would have been no ties. But, again, this detracts from all the WB pageantry and timeliness of updates.
