Takeru Kobayashi has opted to not defend his Wing Bowl title even though the $20,000 first prize is currently the largest currently available in competitive eating. The new poll asks what do you think is the main reason for that decision.

    Actually, I suspect Kobi’s lack of attendance at the Wing Hole is a combination of several of the choices provided: Crowd behavior and (Hofmann hot dogs) do not want to be associated with the Wing Bowl. I also might add, no appearance fee.

    He got $10k to participate last yr. he tried to get dbl that PLUS the prize money to come back. They told him to shove it. Maybe he’ll handcuff himself to wing bowl too?

    Yes, I’d also add bad judging too as a main reason for Kobi’s absence. Cataldi and his crew would find a way of throwing out Kobi’s wings to give Squibb the win. If they could give a win to El Cokador over Sonya, they’d find a way to screw Kobi and “Team Kobi” doesn’t want to take the chance. So, crowd behavior, Hofmann’s, and bad (cheating) judging are all the main reasons for Kobi to take a pass. The second place prize money means nothing to Kobi. Just losing to this crowd of joke eaters, no money would be worth that embarrassment. I guess that’s why only drunks and idiots now attend the Wing Hole. They’re the only people stupid or drunk enough to think they’re actually watching good eaters and a legit contest anymore. Prediction: Jamie gets his enough wings thrown out to lose by two or three wings in overtime to Squibb and Cataldi triumphantly returns the wing crown the lowlifes of Philly.
